I have my Comic Con ticket window open and ready to go. One hour and 12 minutes. I'm taking a lot of deep breaths.

Little sis and her family have made it to Brazil. Will, as predicted, was not a good traveler and I wonder if he ever will be. They've already got one child who seems to travel well. You can't expect TWO!

Other sis is home is this weekend. She and Mom and I played Ticket to Ride last night and I won TWO TIMES. I've started employing the way I play the app with the way I play in RL and it works. It also freaks out the other players because I'm not playing "normally" or, in other words, how everyone else plays. *evil laughter* So much fun.

Other stuff is happening today. I don't think I'll be writing. This is me frowning. Oh well.

Con news

SaraJo and I were not one of the favored thirty-four thousand and we didn't get a place in line for tickets for Comic Con. Since waiting means not necessarily getting air fare and hotels, we've decided to go looking into other Cons.

Right now, we're considering:

Denver Comic Con (which is later in the year than StarFest so I could drive and we have places to stay)
Philly Wonder Con (we have a place to stay and people who would go with us)
Atlanta Dragon*Con (I think some of my LJ friends are planning on this one already)
Phoenix Comic Con (I can drive and we have a place to stay even if it isn't exactly close)

The added bonus of Denver and Phoenix is that those are both cities I'm familiar with and would feel comfortable getting around.

We decided to make a Pros and Cons list of each and cross check it with the money aspect and make our decision based on that. I want you all to know that getting to see any of you is a HUGE pro on my list so let me know where you're going this year!

Another big decision for me is the amount of authors that will be there. I can see most of my favorite TV stars by turning on the television set but how often do you get to hear your favorite author speak? I'm going into this with the mindset that I want to see some of the people who create the words I love!

And then, of course, Felicia Day is already marked down for Denver so that is getting a higher rating in my book.

In other news, I've weaned myself off major Advil doses for my bruised tailbone but the weather is changing so I've had headaches like you wouldn't believe. Our snow is starting to melt and I have trouble with "snow mold" in the spring. We are most definitely edging on spring here! Hooray!

New Covers

Scholastic is coming out with new covers for the Harry Potter books. The big question is will fans buy the same books but with new covers. I can answer with a resounding YES that I will be buying the books. Reason #1: I came to the series late and bought the first four books used in paperback but have the last three in hardcover. I've wanted to get a complete set of one or the other type of binding but have vacillated between hard or soft covers without coming to a conclusion. Problem solved. Reason #2: I like the new cover even though I do wish they would have changed the title to Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone like it is everywhere else but I seem to be in the majority for this wish. Wouldn't want people to get confused and buy the book thinking they're getting a whole new book, after all. Reason #3: I like that they're doing something new for the anniversary. Even though I missed out on all the first years of the phenomenon, I can say I've been a fan for 10 years! This can be my way of celebrating!
