This is the very roughest cut of my writing as it was done quickly, on very little sleep, and after work when my brain isn't always the sharpest. So far I have succeeded in writing "a story" every day which is sort of my plan. I had intended to jump around in my mind's plot but these two stories go together. In fact, they are sort of a prologue and opening chapter to the whole thing. This is only a tiny taste of what I have in my head as I still haven't worked the dynamics of magic into the narrative yet.

Have I told you here how super excited I am about this plot? I gush all the time at work, especially after a night where good ideas have slipped onto my paper, sometimes almost by accident. This world is a lot darker than it was initially. It's a tad more steampunkish than just turn-of-the-century, although the world is actually post-apocalyptic in a way that I haven't completely sketched out yet.

My writing music as been the most beautiful album! A History of Scotland performed by BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. There are a couple of tracks on YouTube but I found it on Spotify and it's been on repeat ever since. I even turned it on this morning before I fully awoke and let it run while I went back to sleep. It's can't hurt now that it's in my subconscious!!!

Are you doing Camp NaNo this month? Feel free to join us at [community profile] 5_prompts/[livejournal.com profile] 5_prompts for the month! We have several prompt tables/graphs and are working on "expanding ourselves" once again this month. Don't want to write 50k in the month? How about just writing a bit more than you normally might?

Come on! It'll be fun.

You get a shiny banner for your efforts!

It's like a week and a half to Camp NaNo. I'm supposed to be writing Streetlight People for Camp NaNo. That was the plan since like... I don't know... March. We'll say March. It sounds good.

But no. I have this all-consuming urge to write this story about Clint and Natasha but then she leaves and Clint hooks up with Mockingbird (need to go find out her first name in my handy dandy book) because he thinks that Natasha is dead (cause she would contact him if she was alive, I'm sure!) and he's mourned and moved on. Clint and Mockingbird get married cause that's what people do when they've moved on and are adults and decide they can't go on living out of a duffle bag. And who shows up? Natasha. Chaos insues.

And then tonight I get another idea because I started following links. I have to quit doing that. It's for a Pandemic High School AU and I sort of love AU and I really love High School AU.

This is the post that is eating my brain. I want to see Science Bros! And then someone mentioned Bruce and Darcy and I was like BRUCEANDDARCY!THATISSOCOOL!IWANTBRUCEANDDARCY! Just like that. I did. You can ask my dog.

I want to write this!

And my beta can't say anything because she's kind of at fault for the first idea.

[livejournal.com profile] lab_brat pointed out that Ticket to Ride is a FREE app on iPod/iPhone today and so I bought it and I haven't stopped playing it... to the detriment of my eyes which hurt from concentrating on my little iPod screen.

ALSO, I've banned myself from TopHatter.com... *sigh* Have you seen this? It's a site that is like etsy and ebay all mixed together. There are live action auctions (say that three times fast) for all sorts of stuff. Jewelry, art, craft supplies, comic books. It's very cool. I spent like $100 yesterday on stuff. Granted, some of it I can use to make jewelry and, perhaps, sell back at the site, but it's not exactly money I should be spending. I blame Facebook. I never would have found the site if not for Facebook. Yes, I blame them!

So, to sum up...

...I should write original for Camp NaNo but will probably write Avengers AU.
...BRUCE AND DARCY! OMG! I LOVE THAT PAIRING AS OF FIFTEEN MINUTES AGO!
...Ticket to Ride is the best App ever. Well, very close.
...TopHatter.com is like crack if crack was covered in sequins and you could wear it on a chain... and you bought it off someone for $4 and shipping.
...Facebook is teh ebilist!

One day, I plan on writing a novel-length story based entirely on the dares at the NaNo website Dares Forum. If you haven't ever visited that monstrosity of hilarity, you might want to this November. It just makes me laugh and laugh and then I sigh because I can't use any of them in my story. What kind of crack could I come up with, though. I mean... a cat who believes it's name is God because people always say "Oh My God" whenever it comes around. That's genius in a weird, twisted way! It's like that Bill Cosby joke.

Monday word count: 2205 - I'm staying even with my curve!

I finally got around to coming up with a Synopsis and a Excerpt for the NaNoWriMo site and thought I'd share it. I just love that I've been able to weave the title in several places. It's more important than I thought it would be when I first came up with it. Still HATE the names but they're growing on me.

Synopsis: Broken Wolf

Carese has spent years running from what she had been told was her destiny, her heart full of guilt for her betrayal of her mate and their plans for the future. When she becomes a caregiver to a pup that wandered into her life, things suddenly change. Not only is she forced to go back to the town she grew up in all those years ago but she finds that many of her assumptions are wrong. Some of answers she's uncovering are uncomfortable to deal with but some are downright deadly.

Excerpt: Broken Wolf

Carese struggled to figure out what these test results meant in the real world. "So.. she's always on alert?"

"Or, more to the point, her system is wired differently than other pups. Several of the test show that she's the same as the others but decidedly different in key areas."

"Genetically?"

Nodding, Ayerton, pulled out a different folder he'd been holding close to his chest. "One other pup has been brought in that ranks the same as Rue. He was put through the tests twice, a year apart from each other. Nothing changed between them so we've assumed these are typical. We don't know where to find more of the pups like this one and Rue so these are our only samples."

Many of the results were very similar, although even Carese could see the differences between them based on gender. This male subject was faster but smaller. She double-checked the data to make sure that she was seeing everything correctly.

"He was older than Rue in these test but he's smaller than she is. That's unnatural in a wolf."

There was approval in his eyes at her attention to the finer details. "It is very unnatural for a male to be smaller but he appears to be bred for speed. All his gene sequences, every single one, are finely tuned for that one specific trait."

A sense of horror began to creep into this new understanding she had of what Rue was. "She's not broken," she whispered, sinking to the carpet next to the desk. Her legs no longer appeared to be able to hold her up. "She's been manufactured. For what? Can you tell?"

He held up Rue's folder and tapped on a single sentence as he read it out loud. "The subject appears to rank in the highest percentile in tracking."

First and foremost... we have no snow on the ground. It hasn't snowed since Voting Day. If anything, we've had our share of FOG... which means the ground is still warm. This is concerning because I now live in the land that snow built. Without snow, the mountain doesn't open. It's already bad enough that no one will be working after December thanks to the crappy housing market... even worse that a lot of people I know are going into foreclosure because they can't afford their house payment and the banks aren't working with them. These aren't new home owners, either. These are people who have been in their house FOR YEARS. So no one is working in construction and now no one is working on the mountain... and things are getting tense.

Second... I've had to suck it up and start saving money in various ways. This means no paperbackswap anymore and remembering to bring my lunches each day. This means I have to read the books that I have currently (which will take me a good year, I'm sure but EEEK! NO NEW BOOKS!) and I can't follow my whim each day and just buy whatever I want for lunch. No more sushi! No more random grazing from the deli. I've even cut back on those Starbucks drinks that you can get in the soda cooler. At this point, I'm just glad to have a job and have enough money for a car payment!

Third... I apologize to all the Syelle shippers out there. Last night was all my fault. I started to like the ship about two weeks ago. Thought it was the coolest thing since digital watches (get it?). You know my track record by now. Every couple I like is BOUND to die a slow and painful death. So, I'm sorry!

Fourth... There is nothing more funny than 40 year old women trying to find Book 4 of the Twilight series. Randye actually cursed when she heard that one of the libraries in town has 4 copies overdue and they can't give her a definite date when she can get a copy there. It's good for a few laughs.

Fifth... I completed NaNo with 59,000 official words. Not sure where those other random 4k went but who knows. I might have missed a document or maybe I miscounted. I'm just glad I got to the NaNo limit even if I was FAR from my limit. The muse decided the story wasn't working on the 20th and there was nothing I could do but sit back and try to figure out what wasn't working and what was. I'm starting the rewrites tomorrow (was too lazy today and Tuesdays are hard to get around to writing what with the family dinner and all) and I think they WILL make the story better so I can't fault the muse! She's right once again!

Sixth... Have I mentioned here that my cousin is having twins in April? TWINS! They're sure to be beautiful as their brother is ADORABLE in that Charlie Brown, round head, big smile sort of way. But twins! That means there will always be a little around who needs holding! I can't wait! I do so love being an aunt. I'm not as good at it as my sister but she's had a lot more practice than I have.

First, I must ask that you all bow your heads with me and mourn the passing of 3600 good, wholesome words. Yes, I was stupid and didn't hit Save nearly enough. I'd taken off Auto Save on the blind laptop eons ago so there was NOTHING after Word froze and shut itself down. NOTHING. Sad, sad, sad. And I looked. The words were nowhere. I'm not even kidding! After sulking for most of the next day, I buckled down in the wee hours of Tuesday and pulled out 4000 words to replace the lost words. It makes me sick that I would have had 8000 words to add to my word total if I hadn't lost those words but I'm moving on with my life!

Second, it is still unclear if we were able to get tickets to the Saturday evening showing of Twilight. I now hang with adults which means that they don't get excited about these things until it's nearly time to go. One of the women had to finish the book (took her A DAY which I told her it would but she didn't believe me) and one wasn't sure if she was going to be able to go. Husbands! Bah! TELL him you're going and let that be the end of it! So haven't heard from the friend who was buying the tickets today if she was able to get them. *bites nails* *realizes nails are already non-existant* *worries the nubs with teeth anyway*

I WANT TO SEE PRETTY VAMPIRES!

I have recently found a bunch of old friends on Facebook and have had to catch up multiple times. One friend was the sort that liked kids but you never expected to have children of her own. Her and her husband up and had a kid on me while I wasn't looking! She'd adorable as are all the kids of the newly acquired FB friends. Told her we would have to have a reunion of the group just so we could meet each others kids... and my dog, of course.

Gyros are so yummy and no one makes them here in the valley so I took matters in my own hands and made them tonight! How lovely that the meat department at the store carries the meat and we have a wonderful "ethnic" section that has everything else. Hooray for fun foods that help me forget that I live in the middle of nowhere!

SHOOT! I just realized that I haven't put my Netflix envelopes in the mail. This not going to the post office as much as I used to is KILLING my mailing schedule. Which reminds me that I have to go check on my PBS stuff... and that I have things to do tonight that don't involve being online. Eek! I've gotta go!
lar_laughs: (Default)
I found the widgets! It's about time... *g*

My official region these days is Idaho : Elsewhere. I wonder if a boy is dreaming of our group as I type this. We're just a figment of his imagination...

I left Luxemborg on there because it was one of the regions they used on the example... and Idaho-Elsewhere is beating them. Hooray! We're beating someone! Based on sheer number of people, we can only really compete with Boise. Maybe next year I'll see about getting the "middle part of Idaho" as their own group. As it is, this group is MOST of Idaho.

I've changed mine to show my total goal as 100,000. I love that it lets you do that! Sometime this week I'll split up the word counts for both of the stories to see how I'm doing with each. I know I have more than 10k for each so I'm happy. I'm on target with both of them.
lar_laughs: (so people will know we were here)
I do love this time of year. Can you guess why? So many little fun things on my friends page that look like this:

Zokutou word meterZokutou word meter
14,444 / 100,000
(14.4%)

or like this:

2795/3334

Boggles the mind how much I love word counts. In the absense of all else that I've had around me in years past, the word counts are enough to keep pushing me on. I love it! *g*

Oh... and have I told you the WEDDING NEWS? I doubt it. I'm a horrible sister and bridesmaid.

If you'd like to see the ACTUAL proposal of my sister and her boy, it's on YouTube. Alex had a friend filming it... plus it was on TV so everyone in the Miami area saw it! You can see it for yourself by going to www.lovethesantos.blogspot.com and paging down a bit. There's also a picture of the ring... *sigh*

EDIT:  The link is now fixed.  Thanks for letting me know!
