Tonight was Event #1 of my Twenty Year High School Class Reunion. As much money as I paid for tonight's festivities, it deserves to be in Caps. I hugged more people than I thought I would, which is odd for me. I don't like to hug people. One girl, toward the end of the night after a semi-open bar, hugged me for WAY TOO long. I WASN'T THAT FRIENDLY WITH YOU TWENTY YEARS AGO. Why are you hugging me so tight?
I got a Rum and Coke and nursed it for FOUR HOURS. *grins* There wasn't water around so I moved to coffee. I drank the last two cups black. Ugh! That's less like me than the drinking but the drinking got quite a few comments. To understand that, you need to know that I made a pretty big stink about not drinking while I was in high school. Considering the way that some of the people were acting when I left, it's with good reason.
Instead of mingling, I found a table and proceeded to talk with several of the spouses for most of the evening. That was right up my alley. They didn't know anyone... I knew very few people... it was great! None of my group of friends showed up (...big surprise...) so I was kind of at a loss. There were several people who were glad to see me and had talked me into coming in the last few weeks but that didn't mean that I had someone I could trust to stay beside me. This is one of the main reasons that people get married and have children. They're guaranteed a safe haven in the midst of a group of people they didn't know well then and don't know well now.
Even though I was one of the LOUDEST people in the room, I was still told by two people that I needed to drink more and loosen up. Of course, that was later in the night and they were well on their way to being hammered but still... can you not hear me laughing and joking? I'm pretty loose.
Tomorrow is the picnic and a lot more people will be there. I'm hoping to hang out with the same group but there will be a lot more kids so that will put a new swing on thing. Man, I wish I had a Plus One to things like this.
Here's hoping I don't get hugged as much!
