This was the last time Sophie was going to allow herself to cry. She was done with crying. It was a waste of time and made her eyes puffy, not to mention the headache it gave her. No matter how much makeup she put on, it never completely covered up the fact that something had broken inside her. Now, of all times, she needed to be whole and splinter-free.
Nate needed her to be whole and splinter-free. God but she’d hated to see him behind that thick glass in the ugliest prison clothing she’d seen since she been an extra in the East End’s production of ‘One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest’ three summers ago. As she sat in the hard chair and tried to keep a reasonable expression on her face, she'd felt something give a little in her heart. It was the last place she ever thought she’d see Nate Ford. He was too good for a place like that.
With a little sigh, she resolved that tomorrow she wouldn’t cry. Tomorrow would be soon enough to start this declaration of strength. Tonight she was going to sit on the couch with a box of chocolate biscuits and allow a few tears to fall. Okay, more than a few but no one else needed to know how she was suffering. This was her own battle to fight.
