Title: Caller ID
Fandom: Veronica Mars
Characters: Eli "Weevil" Navarro
Prompt: he came when she called

...because what else does he have to do these days... )
lar_laughs: (Winter Snowman love)
I've been writing my [livejournal.com profile] casestory story longhand in my notebook. Cathartic? Maybe.

My brain has been eaten by Don't Starve. Have you played this game? There's a demo that you can try out... of course, you might find that you can't do anything else if you start playing. I'm just hoping that I can someday get past Day 20 without being eaten by Hounds. *sigh*

Watching Veronica Mars season 1 and continually amazed by how many of the random NPCs each week were played by people who I now notice a lot more than I did when I first watched the show. I'm remembering all these little things that I've missed... like Mac being switched at birth! How did I not remember that?

And here you thought I'd forgot about writing something everyday in April. *sigh* No, I remember. It hangs over my head on the days when I don't write.

Title: The Story of Before
Fandom: SGA/SPN crossover
Characters: John Sheppard/Dean Winchester
Prompt: from [livejournal.com profile] wings128 Sometimes the hardest thing and the right thing are the same All At Once - Snow Patrol.

...it's always the person that walks away before we're satisfied that we remember the most... )
lar_laughs: (huge mug of hot goodness)
Did a double prompt in only 11 sentences!

Title: Traced in Fire
Original/Fandom: Original - Streetlight People
Characters: Magda, Kilce
Prompt: Wish Upon a Star and Fire at [livejournal.com profile] writerverse
Word Count: 230
Rating: PG
Warnings (Non-Con/Dub-Con etc): none
Summary: In the early days, before the war started in earnest, Magda had bits of time to think of other things other than the constant fighting.

...they're memories, traced in fire... )
lar_laughs: (Marvel - a whisper worth a smile)
There was/is an impromptu three-sentence fic event going on at [livejournal.com profile] be_compromised and that's what I wrote yesterday. It didn't dawn on me that I hadn't posted it here until I was already in bed and it was too late to even think about getting up and posting.

Unless otherwise posted, all characters are Clint and Natasha (often as Clint/Natasha).

Title: Strapped
Prompt: weapons and their meaning to them
Story: There was always a knife strapped to his leg but she knew that it wasn't standard issue. After watching him draw and throw it, she knew it had different origins and felt compelled to ask him about it.

The tips of his ears grew red as he replied, "I've never told you what I did when I was a kid, have I?"

Title: Never a Good Idea to Stare
Prompt: Don't taunt the dinosaurs.
Story: She figured hanging from her ankle in the tallest tree in the area (or so it seemed from this abnormal vantage point) was what she deserved for going against order. When Clint finally got around to getting her down, she struggled valiantly not to hang her head at his pointed look.

"Your typical brontosaurus doesn't like to be stared at," was all he said.

Title: Next in the Lecture Series
Prompt: March Madness
Story: Clint tried to suppress his grin as Natasha settled next to Tony on the couch and said (in her best I'm ever so interested voice), "So explain this madness to me again."

For the sixth time, Tony began his History of Basketball in the Civilized World speech as she watched with what looked like interest. This was going to be fun to watch when the games started.

Title: Tea Party
Prompt: imaginary friend
Story: "You can't sit there," the diminutive Natasha informed Clint as he joined her at the kitchen table. Thirty-six hours in and she was still a six-year old but Bruce swore that he was close to a solution to Dr. Doom's little trick.

As he changed seats, she informed him, "That's where Coulson is sitting."

Title: Injury (warning: character injury)
Prompt: open your eyes
Story: "Tasha, I'm gonna need you to open your eyes for me because we need to get out of here but I can't even begin to think about it until I know you're conscious and I'm doubtful about it at the moment."

The rambling panic in Clint's voice was every bit as comforting as his death grip on her shoulders. As much as she knew she should do as he requested and open her eyes, she wanted to stay in this between existence where all that mattered was that he was nearby.

Title Pre-History
Prompt: a short history of nearly everything
Story: "They're assassins. What more do you need to know?"

Later, Maria wished she'd pushed a little harder for a more in-depth history on Clint and Natasha as she found herself often in the dark about what they were capable of and what she should be expecting of them.

Title: A Time for Us
Prompt: Budapest (it had to be done)
Story: Natasha catalogues their adventures together by the scars on Clint's body. She traces over a ridge of skin, silvered with time, and waits for him to shiver in remembrance.

"Budapest," he growls in return as she starts to melt.
lar_laughs: (VW - squee!)
Title: Breaking Point
Fandom: Veronica Mars
Characters: Veronica, the evil Physic professor
Prompt: from [livejournal.com profile] hufflepuffsneak - Veronica Mars. She can forgive for crimes committed against herself, but not for those committed against her friends.

...some people might call this extreme but she calls it hedging all her bets... )
lar_laughs: (Marvel - Steve in shadow)
Title: Visitation
Fandom: MCU
Characters: Steve/Darcy
Prompt: from [livejournal.com profile] allisnow - Steve, smile for the cameras

Do you have to do that? )
lar_laughs: (Danbo - bundled up)
Title: From the Corner of His Eye
Fandom: Once Upon A Time
Character: Hook
Prompt: from [livejournal.com profile] mahmfic: So in the end/I'll be what I will be/No loyal friend/Was ever there for me - Gollum's Song by Emilana Torrini

...we are lost, we can never go home... )
lar_laughs: (Marvel - Natasha blonde)
Title: Over Coffee
Fandom: Avengers/MCU
Characters: Natasha, Bobbi
Prompt: a long time ago, [livejournal.com profile] ashen_key asked for MCU!Bobbi Morse and Natasha being AWESOME together, with no jealousy at all. And of course I broke my own rule and this is a few more than ten sentences.

...friends are made over time... )

Every Day in April, I'm going to write fic. I'm going to complete fic. Every day.

Granted, this fic is going to be short. Let's say... a maximum of around ten sentences and a minimum of three sentences. I'm going to use a prompt that is given to me to create a shortish story. Every day.

Once a week, if I remember, I'm going to ask for prompts. I'll put up a list of fandoms but that doesn't mean that you can't offer something else. Sometimes I need something different to try. Feel free to give me that something different. I'm all for random pairings and write any and all types of pairings (het, slash, femslash).

And because I'm crap at waiting, feel free to drop prompts at this post for this week. We'll call this week Every Day Before April.

Put the prompts into a form something like FANDOM, CHARACTER or PAIRING, PROMPT (song lyrics, random words/ideas, tiny bit of plot).

Thank you so much!
lar_laughs: (Happy (Lindsay Stirling))
I thought I'd work out the Sleeping Beauty ideas for [livejournal.com profile] writerverse prompt challenges.

Title: A Present Freely Given
Prompt: “Dangerous gifts are such mine to come” (Bjork) from [livejournal.com profile] writerverse
Word Count: 362
Rating: PG
Original/Fandom: Original - Stuck in the Dream 'verse
Pairings (if any) none
Warnings (Non-Con/Dub-Con etc): none
Summary: Princess Tavia celebrates her coming-of-age and is rewarded with the one thing that could make her the happiest - a chance at freedom.

Princess Tavbia surveyed the heap of presents weighing down the table... )
lar_laughs: (Lighthouse - HOPE)

Prompt: Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, "I want to erase every nasty thought that bugs me every day of every week" (link)
Story: "I don't know about this. It seems rather drastic." Ron stepped into her line of sight just as the spell took hold and Hermione's eyes went blank.

Prompt: With Honors, any, I can see your face/ In our secret place/ You're not just a memory (link)
Story: They say that time marches on but Monty doesn't know if he's ready to face all the changes he's encountering at his old alma mater, Harvard. As he wandered the library stacks, a place that always felt more like home than any of the more conventional places one might use the word for, he tried to decide if Simon would be proud of where he'd ended up. No, he decided, he'd just mock him for his maudlin journey through the past.

Prompt: The Avengers (MCU), Bruce/Tony, tomfoolery (link)
Story: "Pepper's going to kill you," Bruce muttered as he surveyed the wreck of a living room, "and you better not blame me for any of it because she's not going to fall for it this time."

Tony gave him a smile that was supposed to be flirtatious but always made him look like an adorable little boy. "It was your idea even if I'm the one who did the majority of the damage this time around."
lar_laughs: (DW - Ten)
Title: For the Cost of a Nightmare
Fandom: Doctor Who (the Rose years)
Characters: Ten/Rose, mention of Captain Jack
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 6208
Author’s Note: In rewatching the shows with Rose and Ten, I came across the mention of Rose’s promise to always stay with the Doctor. She said it with such feeling that I felt there was a story behind when it was made. This starts out AU and goes heads back to normal canon. Rose had a lesson to learn and I think she learned it.

I would like to thank SaraJo for helping me find snippets of conversation that drove me forward and [livejournal.com profile] hufflepuffsneak for looking this over and giving me a shake at the very point when I needed it the most.

This is my first entry for [livejournal.com profile] longfic_bingo challenge, using prompts accidental marriage and tentacles (parallel lines).

My own three sentence stories:

Prompt: Harry Potter, Tonks/Remus, one happy day of summer (link)
Story: It was a silly dream but, just once, Tonks wanted to feel like she was living a normal life with a normal husband instead of the usual race toward the inevitable war. She packed a basket with all their favorite foods before the harder task of pulling Remus away from his books and scrolls. Even if it was only for a few hours, this would be a memory that would carry her through the fighting, long enough for their next picnic under the bright sun.

Prompt: Community, Troy/Annie/Abed, "Well that escalated quickly." (link)
Story: Her fingers were tentative as she smoothed them over the warm skin of Abed's back, eager to memorize every inch of him as he sprawled on his stomach between her and Troy. When he looked back her, his eyes at half mast, she couldn't help but blush under his intense stare. "For a first time," she breathed as she moved in closer, "that was incredible."

Prompt: Avengers, Steve Rogers, these little wonders still remain (link)
Story: When he wasn't lost in the alien-ness of it all, Steve could see very well that the same thread of humanity that he remembered in his youth was still running through everything in his present. It was those moments that haunted him when he couldn't sleep, when all the time that he missed seemed to gang up on him and took his breath away. It was those moments that kept him fighting when all seemed lost because he knew, more than anyone, how important those moments were.

I thought I would start EARLY on my [livejournal.com profile] writerverse Table of Doom. Why start with the most challenging square first? So I wrote a Couplet Poem. Not just any old Couplet Poem but a Steve/Darcy poem over 500 words! I've bruised the part of my brain that rhymes!

Title: The Ad in the Sunday Paper
Prompt: format: couplet poem
Word Count: 762
Rating: PG
Original/Fandom: Avengers/Thor MCU
Pairings (if any): Steve/Darcy
Warnings (Non-Con/Dub-Con/Underage): none
Summary: Darcy keeps hoping for an opening to tell Steve how she feels. This was not how she envisioned it happening.

You click this at your own risk... there be rhymes here )

Title: In that Moment
Fandom: Firefly
Writer: [livejournal.com profile] lar_laughs
Artist: [livejournal.com profile] just_drifting_6

There was always a moment, just before she leaned forward to kiss Wash on the spot where his neck and his shoulder connected, that Zoe felt fear. She’d been through war, seen friends and foe scream as limbs were ripped off their bodies or instantly fall silent in the space of a flash of light. She’d taken her own share of life from the vantage point behind her gun or with a cruel-tipped knife.

There had been times, more numerous than she could recount, that she was afraid for her own safety. From the moment she’d been old enough to understand that the universe was unkind and she needed to do her best to make it right where she could, Zoe had lived with the knowledge that she could die at any moment. She didn’t hold fast to her soul. It was always something she kept firm inside but not locked down tight. When it fled her body, she would be ready.

But this man in front of her, the man who had stolen her heart and refused to give it back, was more precious to her than her own life. If she lost him, would she be able to continue on?

It was only in that single moment that the fear grabbed at her, refusing to let go. As soon as her lips touched his skin, her demons were quiet and she could concentrate on the fount of love that welled up inside her.

“Love you,” he’d say with a slight lean into her and in that moment, she knew peace.

The compound seems to rise up out of the mist like a mirage; nothing one minute and then the next there it is, the haphazard collection of crumbling buildings and barbed wire that they call Safe Haven.

He finds Adelle in her veggie garden. It's such a disparate image, when he thinks of high heels and expensive tea and clipped, efficient orders--how that woman can be the same as the one here now, on her knees in the dirt, her hands carefully pulling a carrot from the earth.

Still, she looks up and smiles when he approaches, and that's enough for all the in-between--the how and the why of where they are--to not matter at all. He's come back, new scrapes and scratches across his skin, and she will always be here, with soft hair and calloused hands and a conversation.

"Hey."

He does not say, "I've missed you." She does not say, "I'm so glad you're alive."
Instead, she beckons him over, and the kneel side by side on the ground, just content with the others' presence.

It dawns on me that I haven't ever posted my lone Valentine's Promptathon story. I have TWO more most of the way done but it's that last little bit that is KILLING ME SLOWLY! The muse fled for warmer weather or better shoe sales or something. I don't know. All I know is that I haven't been able to write anything coherent in about two weeks. Even though there's more sun in these parts of late, I've upped my Vitamin D and need to get myself on a better sleep schedule. Anything to get past this funk!

Title: Whatever It Takes
Fandom: Avengers movie!verse
Characters: Clint/Natasha
Rating: PG-13 (Teen and Up)
Warnings: some language, hospital situations
Author's Note: This is set pre-movie and is another of my attempts to explain Love is for Children. Many hugs to [livejournal.com profile] hufflepuffsneak for the beta!
Prompt: from the prompt given by [livejournal.com profile] icecream_junkie
Proof - by Emily Dickinson
That I did always love,
I bring thee proof:
That till I loved
I did not love enough.

That I shall love alway,
I offer thee
That love is life,
And life hath immortality.

This, dost thou doubt, sweet?
Then have I
Nothing to show
But Cavalry.

I haven't been the best about doing things for my landcomms lately but I did much better this last weekend and even PLACED in voting! That almost never happens!

I tied for second place at [livejournal.com profile] wlreunion with my Magnetic Poetry poem.

Effulgent sister, lend me your ear.
Hear what I have to say.
One of us understands the light
while one contemplates dismay.

You know such stunning happiness
while I cling long to despair.
No matter the letters I write to you;
No matter the memories we share.

Tonight we stand at a precipice
where we may smash or may fly.
The stars overhead sing to us
but the water has a stronger cry.

And if I slip under the crashing waves,
Screeching the long way down,
It will be my own jealousy
That causes my body to drown.

Dive after me and capture my hand.
Save me from water’s domain.
Pull me up with a god’s own strength
Until only we two remain.

And then I placed with some of my six word stories at [livejournal.com profile] writerverse

For the prompt LONGING:
Her absence distracted him from life.

For the prompt CATAPULT:
