It's almost my birthday. Do you know what that means? It means that "sign-ups" for NaNo are creeping up.

NaNoNaNoNaNoNaNoNaNoNaNoNaNoNaNoNaNoNaNoWRIMO!

Say it again!

NaNoNaNoNaNoNaNoNaNoNaNoNaNoNaNoNaNoNaNoNaNoNaNoNaNoNaNoNaNoNaNoNaNoNaNoNaNoNaNoNaNoNaNoNaNoNaNoNaNoNaNoNaNoNaNoNaNoNaNoWRIMO!

Once again, the thought scares me quite a lot. I think I'll stop doing it when it doesn't scare me. If it's just a ho-hum thing to do, what's the use? I've got my speed back up to par and there are several plots/ideas spinning in my brain. I have suitable icons and pictures of people and places to spur me on. I do need to stock up my supply of Irish Breakfast tea... but that's just an everyday shopping list item! I just use more during NaNo!

I've talked about doing my GinnyBigBank during NaNo which I will still do but I would like to do something else as well. Something that I can hand to my relatives and various other people and say, "At last. Here is something of mine for you to read. You keep asking for something. Here it is. A piece of my soul. Bound just for you." That procrastifinishing rears its ugly head once again!

So many plots... so very few moments in the day to write them all down.

I will try to map this transition out for you.

It started with the mention on one of the prompt table communities that I belong to. Or maybe it was in a listing of genres. I don't really know. All I know that is that I've been wondering about steampunk for awhile now. The concept, what little I know of it, interests me. So I've been sort of poking around.

When I saw The Court of the Air at Barnes & Noble, I grabbed it up. Haven't started reading it yet. I like to start somewhere at the beginning of these sorts of things. Perhaps there's a better place to start. I want to make sure that I don't ruin it by starting with the wrong book.

And then I found this icon post and I thought, "What pretty pictures. What's Riese?"

Which led me to the Riese the Series article. Wolves - my old love!!! Steampunk - my new obsession??? This looks really interesting!

You know what's really nice? I'm getting in on the ground floor of something!!!
a pretty, pretty picture )

Why do I feel like today may be the day I will look back and realize this was the day that changed my life? It's been one of those days that has opened my eyes to what else is out there. It's like when I discovered Fantasy (which was at a very advanced age compared to some people - I was 28/29 at the time) and wondered what had taken me so long!

Yes, there is really not a lot out there about Steampunk but the stuff I did find was intriguing. And the fact that there isn't a lot also interests me. I can be just one of a thousand authors trying to break into Paranormal... or I can see if I can be a pioneer in Steampunk. And there are COSTUMES. *shrieks* Yes, I'm a closet CosPlayer. My motto has always been: If you can't do it right, don't do it at all. But these are BEAUTIFUL! Victorian Era with a dash of leather and metal.

I have a location for my story (including old maps since it's a real place). I have at least two characters (the rest will come). I even have music (cause nothing says Steampunk to me like Within Temptation).

Come get me, NaNo! I've got direction like I haven't had in years!
