I am in Phoenix. It's the hottest I've been since... well, since the last time I was here. Of course, that was also a strange stint we did over a few summer days and it was meant to be hot. Was not expecting to be here in October for a string of days well over a hundred degrees. It doesn't matter, though. I'm as close to content as I've been in a long time.

Yesterday, after shopping and eating, I wrote. Just wrote. Well, read a little, too. Finished a book, as a matter of fact. The story was meant to be a one-shot I could use at [livejournal.com profile] octoberwriting since I'm supposed to be working on several (read: 10) 1000 word fics. I can't use this for both [livejournal.com profile] octoberwriting and [livejournal.com profile] syfybigbang because the big bang can't be anywhere else until January! JANUARY! This is one of those reasons that I write at the last minute. I'm crap at waiting for people to read my stuff. But, perhaps, I can write something better if I write it early and have time to have someone check over it for me. Still, I'm not good at waiting.

Perhaps I'll move to other fandoms for my one-shots. I have to write a longer story revolving around Halloween themes for the end of the OW challenge and that is going to be my Alice/Sirius story that I tried to finish for the [livejournal.com profile] marauderbigbang and failed. The problem was that I lost momentum and never had time or energy to pick it back up. I think I've fixed the solution to the plotting and the story may be the better for it by being smaller. Only 6-15k instead of 25k. I love that I have a go to werewolf in my fandoms!

Not that I couldn't write something from Broken Wolf but that is for November. Signed up today and am very happy where this plotting is taking me. I have the antagonist lined up much better than I did before I took my time driving here. I get the best plotting done while driving. Have known for some time who the protag was going to be but I think she's more rounded now. Have a love interest (although he gave me fits) but still need to find her support structure - friends, colleagues, family. And, once again, I need NAMES! How strange is it that I can come up with names every day for anyone that needs them but I have the hardest time finding my NaNo names. I think I'm afraid to name them because it cements their personality. Just as I'm afraid to finish because that means it's done. As with every other writer, I'm afraid of failure. Now I just wish I could move past it like so many others.

Okay, I must go eat lunch. Sister is growling because she's hungry. If I don't keep her fed and well-rested, bad things could happen!

I've wanted to write this character for awhile now. This is one of the banners I made for WriteADay May... which you will remember that I didn't do. I'm actually resurrecting one of the starts (a whole paragraph!) for one of my [livejournal.com profile] octoberwriting stories because I have a good idea where I'd like to take some of the stories I had planned so it's not like I'm flying completely blind. One more day writing on the Ronon/Amelia story and then I'm going to give it a rest (because I should be at the 7500 I need for the [livejournal.com profile] scifiland little bang) and get to other things. I don't know if I'm going to get to the [livejournal.com profile] femmefic_2010 because... well, because. I really need to start these stories as soon as I sign up for them. I MUST QUIT WAITING UNTIL THE LAST MOMENT.

My sister dropped me off at a Barnes & Noble while she went with her friend to get a mani/pedi. While I wanted a mani, a chance to spend some time at B&N was too much of a chance to waste! Of course, I didn't bother telling my sister that they don't really have open wifi at B&N but I did remember to grab her internet card so I don't have to worry about, now do I? *grins* Forgot how much wifi ISN'T at the condo. You'd think old people would want open internet connections! Oh, for shame.

While Metro Center isn't the safest place to be (Have you BEEN to Phoenix Metro lately?), I feel quite content for the time being. The sickness has, thankfully, quieted some. I think getting away from the allergies has REALLY helped so now I just have to deal with the gravelly voice (a product of the cough) and the cough itself (which has quieted) and a slight run in my nose. Not anything that requires me to carry a kleenex on my person at all times.

A look at the weather channel shows some relief in sight. Our trip to DisneyLand (we drive to LA tomorrow and will be there until Wednesday) should be pleasant and when we come back to Phoenix, the temperature should be in the relaxing low 90s/high 80s. That's what I'm talking about! Phoenix is such a strange place in the heat. It's like their winter season. Their indoor season, really. In the winter, I hate going outside and I'm always conscious when I'm in the car that I could slide off the road and into a snow drift and I could die of too much cold. Phoenicians, on the other hand, don't like going outside in the summer and are always conscious that their car could break down because of the heat and they could die on the side of the road from too much hot. It has a direct correlation, really. Just... strange.

But I love it. Not enough to live here again but enough to love to visit. And you know the really, really,r really great thing? The new Diamondbacks Spring Training facility (until this point in Tuscan) is only TWO freeway exits from the condo! We won't be making the trip down this coming spring but sister and I are already thinking ahead to April 2012! OH MY GOD! That would be so cool.

It's strange to think that anyone who has just met me in the last two years might never know that I'm a baseball fan. Yep, it's true. I love me some Diamondbacks. Not lately, for some reason. Now, the 1998-2004 seasons were another story altogether. Mostly because of Travis Lee who, sadly, is no longer playing baseball. In his day, he was a hotty and I was one of his biggest fans. It's really hard to find pics of him... probably because he's not playing anymore. I wonder what he's doing now? Laying tile in San Diego, maybe. That's where he's from. Huh...
