All my hairs have been shaved off! I have a bald head once again. As always, Mom and Dad's internet connection is SLOW so I'm going to post pics here tomorrow when I get back to my house.

The St. Baldrick's event was AWESOME! If you follow my Twitter, I apologize for repeating stuff I mentioned there. We got there a little early since Alex and I were among the first groups. The shirt this year is navy blue and fits a little better than the gray shirt last year so I'm going to get some mileage out of this one! We got a premium spot and waited for the festivities to begin.

This year there was not just ONE bagpiper but the whole corp!!!! They were awesome and yes, brought tears to my eyes. I don't know what it is about bagpipes that make me teary. Well, that and they'd already started the slide show of pics from past years!

Then the first group went up to get shaved and there was a little girl that I recognized from last year. It's a big thing to see these kids from year to year! It means that they're still ALIVE! That is HUGE when you're talking about kids with life threatening cancer. This particular little girl's story made me BAWL like a big baby last year. They'd only just found the cancer and she was starting in on her treatment and her dad was shaving his hair off while her mom held her in her arms. Such a little thing, only a few years old with a breathing tube in her nose and she had these huge dark eyes that just stared out at the audience like she couldn't believe that all those people were staring at her. A lot of kids stay scrawny through the years (YEARS!) of their treatments because their body is fighting the disease and the horribleness of the treatment so they don't get very big but she's grown and gotten all leggy and coltish like little girls do when they get out of the toddler years.

And Spencer was there with HAIR! Hooray! And Ty's hair was positively BUSHY! I don't even know the other kids past their names and their disease but I feel like I know them and I want to hug them all but I don't because then I would cry on them and how uncool to have strangers come up and manhandle you when all you want to do is be normal for one single day out of the hospital.

When it was our turn, Alex and Kristi (one of the nurses that my sister works with) and I went up on stage and then I was tweeting but Tammie (the MC) was talking about me but I couldn't seem to concentrate on what she was saying because I had to remind myself to SMILE this year for all the photographers. She was mentioned that there was always one of us, Mandie (my sister) or I, that shaved so Mandie was pretty tickled that she didn't even have to shave this year and she still got mentioned. Alex made it through and I swear you can't even tell that the boy has a different hair style although I'm sure he feels like a freak (cause you do the first year you don't have hair). When Nicolas saw both of us, his little eyes got all round. You would have thought that the kid would have been more freaked out by the purple hair but no, he didn't like the no hair. Go figure!

I think it's been decided that next year it's going to be all of us except for Mom. She has informed us that someone will have to hold the baby (did I tell you that I'm going to be an aunt again in November? it's official!) but the rest of us will be up there. Me, Mandie, Tiff, Alex, Nicolas and Dad. Six! That's a pretty big team! I'm excited!

TO ALL OF YOU WHO HAVE DONATED... YOU ARE AWESOME! Thank you SOOO much! You don't even know how big it is that people who wouldn't know me if I walked up behind them in a crowded room gave to such a great and worthy cause! You guys rock! I had to HECKLE my extended family into donating! My poor Facebook friends... they must just skip over my posts these days!

And if you still want to donate, you can! Go HERE and click on Donate Now! Even $5 will help me get to $500! I'm so very, very close. I'm hoping for more cash donations from the money jar at work! It will help to have NO hair to have to explain to people although I did get $30 from the purple hair!

Now I'm off to sleep because tomorrow is coming quick! Daylight Savings Time ends. I wish we would just get rid of this stupid changing the clocks around all the time. Stupid!

Also...

I will be donating to an organization (don't know which one yet) to help out Japan but I don't think I'm going to do the typical Help_blah blah community route this time UNLESS I know someone who is doing something there. No more donating toward something from someone I don't know. Not that I'm complaining because the money is going to good places but it's all sort of sham if you aren't getting what you were told you were going to get.

It's just easier to straight out donate than have to go through the places that the communities want you to.

BUT if you're doing it, let me know and I'll bid on you! I do like to support the cause!

(This is NOT about you, [livejournal.com profile] inanna1130 cause 1)we've communicated about it and 2)I know where to find you! *grins*)

My aunt has been in communication with my cousin and her husband who are stationed in Japan so we know she's safe! I think I'm going to get in touch with her and see if she knows of a place that could use some donations. I'll let you know what I find out!
