Today I went to lunch with my dad. It was something that doesn't happen all the time and I thought it was cool that he thought of me!

As ever, the conversation turned to how many books I've been getting in the mail lately. It's a problem, I know. Since my dad is the one who picks up the mail, he most definitely notices how many books I get when I go through my "Amazon is so much fun" phase.

Dad: (half-way sarcastically) You should open a book store.
Me: (half-way sarcastically) I wish I could. Rents are so expensive. There's no way a used book store can stay open in this valley.
Dad: (completely serious) Your house is zoned for business.
Me: Right. (listening to what he said for the first time) MY HOUSE IS ZONED FOR BUSINESS!

And while I don't have the best parking in town, my house is on the main street and I get a lot of foot traffic. I could move my LIVING to the back of the house and set up the front as a NEW AND USED BOOKSTORE. It could work! I could still work part-time (enough to keep health insurance and pay my car payment/insurance and you know... food) but I could be open later into the evening. There's not a lot that is open late in this valley.

If no one comes by, I'd still be doing just exactly what I do every evening... hanging out online while I read/write/mess around. So I don't make a huge amount of money. Hopefully I'd make enough to keep a good supply of books. And I'd most definitely have comics because no one in the valley has comics.

This would of course mean that I would have to FOLLOW THROUGH with something. I'm going to let the idea rest and see what comes up when I look around and see what kind of legal/local loop holes I need to jump through. But having my own book store would be the fulfillment of a dream I've had since I was a very little girl.
