I finished watching the Hulk movie with Edward Norton. Man, I love that guy. Not as the Hulk but as a generally well-rounded, great actor. Did I learn anything I can use? No, not really. Maybe the meditation thing. And some of the background... sort of. But it's been watched. I feel better about
all the things I don't know and feel like I can move forward.
I went into work late today because I'm working on Saturday and didn't want to pull in that much overtime since Beth didn't compensate well last week and ended up not getting to take off much time so got more overtime. Oh well. Not my life. But I thought I would try to even things out a bit.
When I got on the road, I ended up getting caught in the midst of some cattle being moved. Unfortunately, they were going the same direction as I was which is never easy. If they're going by you, the trick is to stop the car and let them pass you by. No muss, no fuss. But going through is tricky. Not the least of which is because the dog was frustrated. I can totally relate! Poor thing! The cattle had been moved into a barrow pit beside the road except for one obstinant cow that wanted to be on the road. One of the riders stayed on that side of the road. The other two riders (one of which was telling the dog what to do), were on the other side so the dog was supposed to stay with them. But the dog, doing it's job really well, I just say, wanted to go get the cow! It kept crossing in front of me so I had to keep stopping until it was hustled back to where it belonged. But then it would remember the cow...
Incidentally, a good cattle dog is worth it's weight in gold so that little thing cost more than my car. There was no way I was going to try to convince it to move out of my way. I can be patient!
At lunch, I did some story framing. For NaNo? No. For the Christmas gifts? No. For anything I've already started and need to finish? No.
Instead, I started working on the outline for the Commas by Debate story that popped up in a conversation with
inkvoices over at
be_compromised the other day. I found the first sentence while I was driving to work so wanted to toss it around to see what I came up with. So far, it's making me smile.
I'm really enjoying doing world building in Index Card books. You know, the index cards that are wire bound with plastic on either side? Super fun to use! Handy to have around all the time. You don't have to worry about them getting out of order or lost. I have four right now. One has a COMPLETELY OUTLINED STORY in it, ready to go. One has some character sketches in it. One is head canon and truths for Streetlight People. One has a list of dares and prompts for NaNo.
Here's an interesting blog post that I found at the NaNo site tonight. It's from a professor that has a Write A Novel In A Month class during November for NaNo. He's got interesting tips!
I'm thinking of getting Scrivener (because I work on a Mac) after NaNo. While I could get it on Friday when I get my check, I don't know if I want a new toy so close to November. I also want to consider it some more. Right now, I work out of Google Docs because it's easy to copy and paste into things and I can work on it from all the locations I may be. I think I would keep working (or storing, maybe?) by WIPs in the cloud and use the software to plot? I don't know.
Have you noticed me using the P word a lot these days? I'm starting to realize that to take my writing to the next step, I've got to quit writing by the seat of my pants. Yes, I need freedom to create but I also need some sort of structure. It's worked for some of my largish fanfic the last couple of months. Also, I came up with an idea that I haven't had time to write but it won't disappear completely because HOORAY! I PLOTTED IT OUT!
Also, I left my phone at work. :( I need to remember to set the alarm on my iPod so that I have something to wake up to. This never happened when I used an actual alarm clock. *pouts*
