Megan wasn’t sure if she should be offended or not. Instead of answering right away when her anger was still at its peak, she bit the inside of her cheek and counted to ten. Twice.
“Did you hear him?” Crabbe asked. “He called you-“
Draco’s hand bit into the pudgy boy’s shoulder. “It’s not quite as biting if you have to repeat it. Let’s just assume that the logic went over her head.”
“These boys bothering you?” Cedric asked, coming up behind the Second Year to lay a comforting hand on her shoulder.
She shook her head. “No, not really. Just watching a new comedy routine. Walk me back to the Common Room?”
He extended his arm, bent at the elbow. “Certainly.”

A year is never enough time to mourn, Megan thought as she watched the last rays of the sun stain the grandstands a brilliant sable. Even though a full set of Quidditch games had been played this year, it still didn’t feel right. Two years without watching Cedric race after the Snitch. One year without his comforting presence.
“Coming in?” Susan asked, extending her hand.
It reminded Megan of the things that Cedric had taught them. Always be the first to extend a hand in friendship. Offer a smile when everyone else is frowning. Go the extra mile whenever possible but never expect to be reciprocated. Stand behind your friends no matter the opponent. Choose your friends wisely. Live each moment to the fullest because it may be your last.
"It still feels strange. I'm still don't feel that I'm allowed to smile."
"It's going to feel strange for awhile, but we don't need to be sad. He wouldn't want us to," Ernie asserted, coming to stand on her other side.
Together, the group walked back, enjoying the evening breeze as they remembered their friend and leader.
