I decided to make myself feel better by spending money on books AND games!

Kiss of Steel by Bec McMaster

Gunmetal Magic by Ilona Andrews

Firelight (Darkest London) by Kristen Callihan

Spectyr (book 2) and Wrayth (book 3) by Philippa Ballantine

Dixit (the game that Whil Wheaton played on Tabletop this week)

...plus a few other games for gifts.

What I really should have bought was a fly swatter because sister doesn't appear to have one and there are two flies that WILL NOT leave me alone. Grrrr! Of course, just talking about them has made them run for cover so HOORAY!

Dixit looked like so much fun. (And I loved that Beth was on! Love her in Leverage.) Sadly its a three player game though, so not for us unless we have company over. I wish they would do some two player games again, the last few have been 3 players, and the next one is too. :(

The cards were so gorgeous in Dixit that I decided that I wanted it just for the pics! Yes, I want to play it the way that it's supposed to be played but I think it might inspire some creativity in some of the Littles. Also, I think it can be played with just a few people to create a shared story. I'm not sure that's much of a game but it sounds fun.

What's next week? I haven't paid any attention to what was coming up. And I did love seeing Beth get to take down Wil!

You like Ilona Andrews? She's one of the authors I read when I want to satisfy my paranormal sweet tooth (aka often)! :) Are you feeling better?

I love Ilona Andrews! I've been a fan since book one of the Magic series and am so very happy with this new spin off and the other series they do (The Edge). Have you seen the free (I think they're still free) ebooks from Curren's POV? I haven't read them yet because I want to do a reread and read those along with the book or after the book or something.

Have you read the Allie Beckstrom novels by Devon Monk? I get the same happy feelings from those books as I do from IA books. And then, of course, the Patricia Briggs books!

I'm a super fan of paranormal! What are you favorite authors? I'm always looking for new books to read! Right now, I'm kind of falling head over heels for steampunk because, as an author put it in her blog, fantasy + scifi + romance = everything I want to read! and that is also true for me!

And yes, now that I'm home again and back with my support structures, I'm doing better. The retail therapy did help, though. I piled the books next to me on the couch and just grinned at them like a crazy fool!

*cough* Sorry this is half a month late. *cough*

I'm not the hugest fan of the most recent Edge novel, but that probably stems from my reluctance to watch a series develop a very complicated world very 'quickly'. Jim Butcher and his Dresden Files get very deep, 'verse building wise, but he did baby steps with every book and still has 5 or more to go before he wraps it up. (A serious favorite of mine, but maybe more fantasy/gumshoe detective than paranomal? He has a ton of paranormal/urban things in his books, but it definitely doesn't read like the typical female-focused urban paranormal book.)

When I first found the Curran POV ebooks, I know I read them, but I don't remember doing so. Clearly a sign that I should go back and reread everything all over again! :) Full rereads are one of my secret pleasures. I'm sorry, poor people who wander by hoping they're on the shelves, I may have checked out the entire collection in one go...

I haven't read Devon Monk, no! The name does sound familiar; is it something to do with shadows?

Patrica Briggs. Patricia Briggs. Can we talk about how freaking awesome she is? Her Mercedes Thompson/Alpha and Omega books are ones that I can always pick up and reread any day to get warm fuzzies. I cannot wait for Frost Burned to come out in March.

Favorite paranormal authors - well, we've already discussed Ilona Andrews and Patricia Briggs. Jim Butcher, for sure! The Walker Papers by C. E. Murphy is an interesting paranormal series, that (to me at least) has a different voice than most. Fair warning, the latest book, #7, left me feeling ambiguous about the series' future... but the first six are good. :)

I've also read the Sisters series by Yasmine Galenorn to pass time, the Weather Warden series by Rachel Caine (although only one of her short stories makes it onto my 'Seek out and re-re-read list'), and a handful of other series/books here and there that I remember - the Kitty Norville series by Carrie Vaughn, and oh! The Women of the Underworld series by Kelley Armstrong, which actually just had the final book come out. It's an interesting read because she begins switching around narrators for different books and develops a very diverse world.

...and that's a pretty big chunk of the paranormal books that I've read since picking the genre up a few years ago. o___O Steampunk hasn't really caught my fancy yet, but who knows? Things may change. I certainly never expected to read more than fantasy or scifi!

And I'm glad you were/hopefully are doing better. :) Having gone through some support system shake-ups recently, I appreciate how important they are.
