Of the new stuff I've read this year, nothing really stands out. Can I say Georgette Heyer's stuff in general, since I just kind of discovered her? If not, I reread Gaskell's North and South, and that's definitely in my top 10 :)

How did you come up with the Daemon names? Are they based on the animal or on the character or you just looked at the picture and the name came to you? I'm intrigued!

I got to college and knew I needed to change it, but without GCM theatre, I was a little adrift on the whole "identity" thing, and I didn't want to glom onto another school that I would leave in a few years, so I didn;t change it.
When I left for a semester abroad in winter/spring 2006, I wanted to do a different LJ about it, the way some of my friends had, and I named it after a character from one of my favorite books, Sam the Assassin.
(I also have a Thing for Assassins that has only gotten quieter on the outside in the past few years.)
"samalander" was taken, so I threw the _ in there, and then then I got back from London, I didn't want to go back to the kid I was, so I stuck with this LJ.
AND THEN I FOUND TEN DOLLARS.

Once I have the daemon, I have a picture of it up and flick through my name-book, keeping in mind both the character and the family background for them. I run with the theory that the parents' daemons choose the names for the child's daemon, and most people do not have either the education or the inclination to be all FANCY SCHMANCY SYMBOLIC/HISTORIC (and actually that's a pet peeve of mine with daemon!fic, where all the characters, no matter their background, are running around with names that would fit into an English university-city/upper-class or like where the books start, or with the witches). So, while the daemon names can be a bit more fancy or old-fashioned compared to their human ones (although it really depends on family background), I try and keep them grounded. Upper-class people do tend to have fancier names (Tony's bowerbird is called Zenobia), but this is not as much in fashion in current-day America as it was in the past or in other places (Peggy's kestrel is Apolinar, because she's of the upper-class, no matter her current lack of money). And Natasha's daemon has a Russian name because she's a child of the late seventies USSR, and the child of parents who married in the late fifties - she's not going to be running around with either a terribly unusual name, or a name that is more 'Western' than not. Etc. I have no idea where Clint's daemon being called Winona came from, really - it just jumped into my head randomly, and it seemed to fit.
After that, it's just the where my name-book leads with what 'clicks' with the picture I've found.
...not I'm adverse to symbolism or references, of course (Bruce's rattlesnake is called 'Odette' more in reference to the cursed princess from Swan Lake than anything else) but I try and steer away from too much of it.

6. Well I have been a shipper since as far back as I can remember (at the tender age of 5 I knew that Rogue and Gambit belonged together forever!) so my time in LJ follows my current ship. I usually get obsessed with a ship no matter how doomed it is. And I will stick to that ship till a new one comes along lol. So I have been lurking or participating mainly in Harry Potter (Draco/Hermione), Firefly (Rayne_Shippers love.), Stargate Atalntis (Ronon/Keller 'cause honestly who picks McKay over that!), Farscape (John/Aeryn), LOST (at first it was Sawyer/Kate then I saw the light with Sawyer/Juliet), Buffy (Spike/Buffy), A little NCIS (Tony/Ziva), Castle (Castle/Beckett, I <3 Nathan Fillion), Avatar: the Last Airbender (Zuko/Katara) -I'm just starting to notice a Bad Boy trend...- and anytime I see a movie or show or read a book and have feelings I tend to find a community. Yeah...this turned out WAY LONGER than I anticipated...

I found Leverage via Christian Kane. A year ago I watched the Angel seasons 2 to 5 for the first time. In one episode Christian Kane's character starts to sing and I was like 'Hell, this dude can sing!'. I googled him and fell in love with his music, as I'm kinda a big country lover. Then I heard about Leverage and I knew it was my series, when the pilot ended and Nate's plan was wrapped up. I just loooved it.
Can I snag this? =)
