I had another epiphany about Streetlight People today as I was getting ready for work. I was reaching for the towel and BAM. I realized why some people get to keep their magic. Something so minor has been nagging at me FOR MONTHS and something skewed just enough for me to understand.

If I can find the words, this will be one of the first stories I've set down and then successfully picked up. Not because of want but because the why made itself known. As in: WHY should I write this? WHY is this my story to tell? WHY should I sweat blood over this story?

I think I have the why. I think I have the what. I definitely have the when.

It's funny how things jump on you like that, right? I'm always really relieved when that happens to me, because a) it means my muse is still working and b) one small problem is solved!

And I think you put your finger on the very heart of writing with your questions. My playwriting professor asked us what message we each had to convey in our plays, and I kept coming up blank. Congrats on being way, way ahead of me. ;)

I live in ABSOLUTE FEAR of my muse wandering off and getting lost!

This will be my ninth (tenth?) year of NaNo which means I've written about 8 novels. Three of these were COMPLETE CRAP. The rest are okay but probably needed some more time and love and attention but I could never be bothered to pick them back up again. The real reason is that I never found a reason to stick with them. They were from me but they weren't me. I keep trying for that one story line that I want to write beyond just the month of November (because that's one of the only times that I can force my body to sit in my writing chair for the length of time it takes to write a larger story) but maybe this is the one.

One of these days, you will find your message. I think it's really cool that you're asking the question. Not everyone does.

And maybe blank is the answer!

I've been talking things over with the girls at work but I need to put some of them in writing so you'll be receiving an email from me to see what you think! I've added a darker element but I think it all makes so much more sense now! Times like this, I wish I could talk at you instead of trying to put in writing!
