Date: 2013-01-12 03:46 am (UTC)From:My goal this year is to WRITE and not wait for challenges. I mostly just need the big bangs to give me a deadline and a reason. And a word count, I guess.
And I don't think word count is important. What IS important that you finish and you push yourself! I'm all for those two things!

Date: 2013-01-12 04:07 am (UTC)From:I guess I've never considered, at least consciously, pushing myself when I write. Writing has always been a means of escape for me (in both good and bad senses), and anything structured that I've tried to do has absolutely fallen apart. Taken humanity (n) for instance - the one fic I mapped out, the one fic that would be in chapters, the one fic that would be Big with a capital B... and I haven't touched it for weeks, if not months at this point. I do try many different things when I'm writing, but I'm not sure that's the same as pushing myself. How do you approach it?

Date: 2013-01-12 04:59 am (UTC)From:In my writing, though, I try to do something every year that scares me. One year, it was doing a Big Bang. One year, it was joining an RP. Last year, it was fully immersing myself in fandom again. I don't have to do it more than once if I don't want to. It's completely up to me.
I also try to do "one better" from time to time. If I wrote one story for a promptathon, I'll try to write two for the next one. This sort of depends on RL.
I'm NOT in favor of any sort of structure! None of this is set in stone! I don't do well with structure. The fact that you have MAPPED out a fic is amazing to me! My idea of mapping out a fic is looking two steps ahead... which, I might add, is sort of how I play chess!
Anyway, that's what I do.
