Ernie was determined to be the highest mark in Herbology this year. Everyone looked at him oddly as he actually pored over the reading assignments. It was widely known that Professor Sprout had long since stopped expecting the students to do the reading, calling it “required” because it was required of her to have required reading.
Zacharias rolled his eyes, irritated by the time and energy Ernie was spending on the useless assignments when he could be doing something really important – like practicing for the Quidditch game on Sunday. There were more important things than a high mark in Herbology.
