My last rant on losing my OTP...because I'm still tired.

What's it like to give up a character?

Do you simply walk away, content that you had a friend and knowing there's a new one around the corner? Pure and never used before.

Or is it more like a funeral where you commemorate the person to a better place, knowing you can never use them again? Covered with dirt. Broken.

Do you keep them in the place you had them, knowing they'll never continue to grow or develop but writing them anyway? It seems like another death - little ones, over and over again.

This is why fanfic is wrong. Not because you're using someone else's characters or plot or settings. It's because the real author dictates what the character does. She didn't consult me!!

Now to find myself again...

I just randomly found your lj. I know what you mean about losing a character. HBP ruined one of my characters for me and I am seriously thinking about giving them up now.

I think it's inevitable to have JKR mess with "our" characters until after Book 7. Then - they're fair game for us to take back!!!

Do you play your character is an RPG or write fanfiction? I'm just "rethinking" some of my options for now. Rearranged a pairing and added a completely new one. That should help!

I read fanfiction and I partially write it. Well JKR made my character look way different than I though and be different. So I am just all wonked out and I don't know whether to stay with them or not.

I did love Zacharias Smith in this book for some reason. It's just weird how they all kind of hate him though.

I don't see Draco fans liking him much because he's like another Draco to the trio and other DA. I've loved him since he's come into the story so I liked the new information. Of course, I'm now a Zach/Megan shipper! Whee! Another ship I'm going to have to fight for!

Who is Megan? Sometimes there is just so much going on in Harry potter unless the character is prominent or annoying I don't notice them. I like Draco a lot. I've liked him even when he was an utterly bastardly prick. I kind of knew that he would be less of a jerk in this book.

Wait! Not Zach/Megan. That's the ship I used to have. Zach/Ginny. Megan is one of the Hufflepuffs you never actually hear about but she was on the class lists that JKR had showed at one point. We don't actually know anything about her from the books so not a lot of people know about her.

No, Zach/Ginny is my new ship. I really need to reread my posts! :)

I decided not to walk away from it. *grins* I'm bending canon to my will so now my stuff is a kinda canon/AU hybrid now. Hooray for taking ideas and running with them!
