I rearranged my desk area again tonight. Now that I have a small screen, it's much easier! The problem has been that when I'm sitting on the couch and want to watch Netflix, the screen is too high and I get that negative feedback where black should be. Now I have a place to put the screen so that it's at the right level. I've been watching Stargate: SG-1 lately, trying in vain to catch up with all my friends at [livejournal.com profile] stargateland and [livejournal.com profile] sgoc. Right now I'm watching Season 1, Episode 12 - The Nox. I really like Episode 10 The Torments of Tantalus (and need to make myself an icon of some sort that says "Kathryn agrees" because that phrase just tickled me) and Episode 8 Cold Lazarus (because it was interesting watching O'Neill being very O'Neill-like.

And now on with the Daily Writing Meme:

8. What's your favorite genre to write? To read?

The above quote in the cut is from the author of the most wonderful SciFi book that I've read. I got Solitaire from the library almost by mistake. At the time, I didn't know it was a SciFi book but loved it so much that I bought a copy. I still don't read much SciFi but there are a few books here and there that I've read that I enjoy.

I really love Paranormal, a subset of SciFi/Fantasy that centers on werewolves and vampires and fairies and lovely talking/intelligent animals. Right now, I'm in the midst of the Allie Beckstrom novels by Devon Monk. I also enjoy the Kate Daniel books (talk about intelligent animals!) by Ilona Andrews.

I also enjoy history books because I like to know why people do what they do. This summer I've been reading through The Isles: A History and I've learned a lot of reasons for different events. Most of them are about men or women who wanted power. Imagine that! But it's just interesting. I know some people don't like reading dry history but it's something odd about me.

I'm also not adverse to reading mysteries or romance or anything else that's well written.

I like to write whatever comes in my head. Why be bound by the rules of any one genre? People who aren't set in one genre can help create new ones. For instance, I can remember a time when Paranormal didn't exist. There were only a few werewolves and even fewer vampires in fiction. Now look at the writing industry - full of werewolves and vampires! Good stories can create genres because people read them. I just want people to read what I write.

I did really like The Nox episode. Learned a little bit more about the worlds and the characters and that's all that I'm looking for right now.
