I have a hard time picking up and reading the second book of any kind of series. Part of it is that I've been disappointed so often by second books. They don't sparkle as much as the first ones. They aren't as new and as fresh, partly because I have expectations for them.

Case in point is Stephanie Meyer's newest books. Everyone seems to be going ga-ga over them and I can't seem to find the energy to even request them at the library. I know they'll probably be really good but I just can't make myself want to read them. I read the first one, thanks. It was good. I really, really enjoyed it. I even bought the audiobook and it's waiting patiently on Zinc.

I'm going to have to do something about that "second book malaise" I've got going. This is a series world I'm living in.

A book I can highly recommend even though I'm not done with it is The God of Animals by Aryn Kyle. I first heard about this book from Hank Green on one of his Brotherhood 2.0 videos (NERDFIGHTERS!) and requested it from the library. I started it last night at about 6pm and didn't go to bed until 1230pm AT LEAST because I couldn't put it down. It's not done yet but it will be tonight. While they're calling it an adult book, she had intended it to be a YA novel and the protagonist is a twelve year old girl but you sometimes forget that. Anyway, it's good. Go out and read it.
