This morning I've been:

*trying not to think about all the sleep I DIDN'T get last night because I can't shut my brain off right now. If I could stay up 24/7 writing, I think I have enough ideas to fill my time.

*reading through the latest issue of TV Guide and loving all the pretty, pretty pictures (Eliza and Tahmoh are so very pretty together in the airbrushy way of TV Guide pics).

*working on the smut I've been putting off. This is just not my strong suit.

*running through those ideas that kept me up last night to see if there's anything I need to document before I lose it.

*researching the realization I had last night. I know where I first heard of Steampunk! CHARLES DE LINT! If you're a fan of my blog, you know I ADORE Charles de Lint. I had forgotten (until I was getting ready for bed last night) that his stuff is considered Steampunk. Especially the stuff he wrote in the anthology Borderland which is a book I wish I owned! I love that book. Got it from the library no less that FIVE TIMES. It's on my Amazon list but I always find other books to purchase. Silly Lar! At the time when I read that book, I had tried to integrate the magic I was writing with a world like Borderland but failed because I didn't understand what lay at the core of the world. I was trying to make it a NORMAL Fantasy world. Even if you call what you're writing a rural fantasty (which is one of the other ways of saying STEAMPUNK), you still need to understand the underlying basis that technology is different in this realm. Magic is different. The people are different. There are ideologies at work here that must be dealt with first. This is going to be a long process but then so was learning to write Harry Potter or any other genre I've ever tried to write. I need to come to terms with the world that is in my head.

...There are no new plots - only new worlds...

Did you catch that?

"Girl, Google is your enemy."

And then a Bing commercial (well, not right after cause that would be TOO obvious).

Product placement like you wouldn't believe!

*sigh* I'm supposed to be writing the ficlets for [livejournal.com profile] whedonland but I just can't seem to get away from the TV tonight.

GAH!

I'm so done writing things for challenges. I can NEVER get it right. And it's not even this time around in fandoms. I just don't seem to be able to read rules correctly or read the people who are going to read it correctly. And now I've WASTED three hours (when I could have been doing something else much more profitable) to win stupid points that I don't even care about at this time of night because I'm so pissed off.

I don't think I'm going to write for challenges anymore. I've come to this conclusion before but I think I just need to remind myself of that over and over again. I'm just not a challenge writer.

And now I'm disgruntled and going to bed.
