Books update
Jul. 9th, 2012 10:42 pmI have a book recommendation for you and I would like one from you.
I've mentioned both Graceling and Fire in my journal but I want to spotlight the series now that I've finished reading the third book, Bitterblue. The author has indicated that the books don't need to be read in order or that they all work as stand alone pieces but don't listen to her! Each book gives history and depth to the next, even Fire which doesn't appear to connect to the first book hardly at all. NOT TRUE!
Yes, it's a YA series so there is really no sex (a few brief mentions of the act) but there is angst and there is want and there is need. Not even a watered down version. Oh no! This is the real stuff. These characters aren't superheroes, no matter that they may be special (or Graced), so they bleed and suffer and breakdown.
The third book kept me up for two nights but I knew that so I didn't start reading until Saturday morning. I had the whole weekend to read it! I finished late last night (early this morning?) because I knew that I wouldn't be able to carry the book to work and NOT read it.
Another good book I read recently was The Iron Duke by Meljean Brook. It was a Vaginal Fantasy read (you don't know what the Vaginal Fantasy book club is? GET THEE TO YOUTUBE AND CHECK IT OUT!) and I was excited to read it. The Steampunk portion of the book was GLORIOUS and so real. Made me want to give up sugar! You will probably have to read the first five or ten pages twice (I was reading them while eating lunch so maybe that was my problem) but you won't have to with any other parts. At least, I didn't have to.
Okay, so here is my plea to you! I need some books to read for the portion of my list entitled RIP, DEAR ONE (books by dead authors). I'd intended for this to be sort of a classics section but I don't want to read any classics that I have staring at me.
What books do you like that would fit in this category?
They can be paperbound or ebook. I've got access to either. They can be classics or just an author who died well before his or her time. If I get enough "votes", I'm even willing to do a reread.
If you want to check out the books I'm reading, here is my reading list (it's my sticky post).

...and why it's amazing her co-workers put up with her ramblings.
True story. I hate Mondays. I think it's because I forget just how much I hate Mondays and I always tell myself that it won't be so bad and then I get there and I'm instantly (INSTANTLY) tight and anxious. Why? Many reasons.
So what do I do to make it better? I pad my space with things I love. In my personal drawer are Peanut Butter granola bars and Lifesavers. In the pocket of my apron are at least 3 of my favorite pens. In the private bathroom we have just for the pharmacy (hooray for the legality of having our own bathroom so we don't have to use the story bathroom which is EW! GROSS!), we have a high bookshelf (because they decided it needed a high bookshelf... I don't know why) that has books on it from our Pharm Girl Book Club selection. In the tiny food refrigerator is a bag of cherries (in the summer) and a bag of grapes (in the winter). I have a special glass for my iced tea and a special mug for my hot tea.
And most of all, I fill the air with as many good vibes as I can. It's hard on a Monday but I try to do what I can. So I talk about Avengers. R and B let me. H can't do anything about it. *grins*
Today, I told B all about the new Lettie artwork (because she is now pretty much equal with Avengers and Clint/Natasha in my mind) of the Circus Natasha.
"I don't have time to write a Circus AU," I whined.
Beth just smiled.
"But I... I could use some of the Lettie pictures."
Beth just smiled, her head to the side as she tried to figure out what in the world I was talking about.
"The ones where Clint and Natasha are too happy. That could be... yes."
"Yes?"
"I'm writing a Clint/Natasha Circus AU." I nod my head.
"I thought you didn't have time to write anything?"
I shrug. "It won't be long."
Beth nods slowly, her eyebrow raised. "Yeah, you said that about the last one."
"Shush."
So I'm going to write a C/N Circus AU. But not until I've finished the Leverage/Avengers story (Oh! New Leverage on the 15th!) and the Stark Siblings Take Over the World story and Clint's car backstory. And the Doctor Who story for
pentapus that needs an ending most desperately! Do I have anything else that I'm writing?
All I know is that Aster's going to kill me for coming up with another story idea.
