lar_laughs: (Suburgatory - Tessa reading)
My reading list is pretty sad considering that I was reading a lot of fanfic the first part of the year but I've stepped it up in the last month... sort of.

The books that are sitting beside my bed because I've started reading them but have found other shiny things to read instead of finishing these:

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (while this book is AMAZING, I was getting depressed with all the rain and clouds and decided I need to read something lighter and less "gee, I wonder when the main character is going to be ASSASSINATED")

Muse and Reverie by Charles deLint (okay, I've actually only read the first few pages of this book and I WILL get back to it because I do love my CdL)

Witch & Wizard by James Patterson (I like this premise BUT I don't know if I can read it because the constant chapter changes are DRIVING ME INSANE. I thought I could handle it because I do love fanfic that does the same thing but the thought of do this for 282 pages makes me slightly nauseous)

And then a thousand and one freebies on my Kindle that I read three paragraphs of and then promptly wonder why anyone ever let them put their stuff up on the Amazon Kindle store. If they're really bad, I purge them but if they're only sort of bad, I put them in a collection just in case I decide to read them after all.

Books I will be buying soon:

$$$$ The rest of the Shadow Unit series! I really enjoyed that book. Even though it is frighteningly like Criminal Minds (and if you read the way the series came about, you'll find out why), it's just so entertaining. I read an Amazon review that says that book two is much more character-driven which makes me all sorts of happy because I love the team.

$$$$ The new J.R. Ward that came out last week. I decided to get it on Kindle until the paperback comes out.

$$$$ Hunger Games - I've read it but I need the first book as an e-book to go with the rest of the set that I have on my Kindle. Also, at least one of my book clubs (I find myself involved in THREE) is reading it.

$$$$ Several other book club books. I have that list somewhere around here...

I guess you have the same problem with waaaay to few space for all the books around you ^^
A kindle... I was thinking about getting one a few month ago. Is it worth it? I mean, a book without the feeling of a book in your hand, that doesn't sound right.

I thought the same thing about ebooks and ereaders but I <3 my Kindle! Yes, I still buy and read a lot of printed books but there is something about having a LIBRARY in your hands whenever you want it. I can flip through my list of books and pick ANYTHING. It's amazing. And tonight I bought three new books... and they're already ready to read! It took about thirty seconds!

There will be some books that I will always buy in printed form but I love having a choice in how I read other books.

How is it like Criminal Minds? *curious*

J.R. Ward sounds like an author I should really try out sometime. Also, the Hunger Games. I haven't read it and I've got this hang-up about reading books that are really popular? So I'm not sure whether I'll get around to it - I'm snobbish like that xD (The only reason I actually read HP was because I started reading before the hype)

This author is in a writer's group and one of the members encouraged them all to write some fanfic to break out of their doldrums. Emma wrote some Criminal Minds fanfic and had so much fun that she and her friends came up with this idea. You can tell she had her favorites on the show, though. I'm glad she told us all this straight up in the Author's Note at the beginning of the book or I would have been weirded out by how alike the show and this book were.

I still liked the book, though. They aren't ripping the show off necessarily... just using the character descriptions and some traits.

JR Ward is an AMAZING writer with some AMAZING books out there. While she isn't for everyone, I think they would still resonate with 75% of my friends list,

We (the girls at my work) read the Hunger Games trilogy before it became a huge thing. In fact, they hadn't even announced the movie when we started! I almost never get in on the ground floor of a phenomenon! I think it's an interesting story with interesting characters and a lot of action.
