When I was growing up, I wanted to be a geek. I really did. I wasn't allowed to be because I was raised by parents who were able to convince me that fantasy was "bad". I've retrained my parents enough that they don't think I'm going to suffer the fires of hell because I like fantasy. Even so, I'm still a frustrated geek.

Watching Wil Wheaton play table top games on Geek & Sundry keeps the frustration at bay a bit because I'm learning how to play table top games of the fantasy variety. It's so much fun! Last week was Settlers of Catan and this week is Tsuro, Zombie Dice and Get Bit.

Before the part with Tsuro was over, I went to Amazon and bought it!!!!! It looks like a game that all of Littles could play even!

Zombie Dice seems like game very similar to game we already play. Get Bit looks interesting... we shall see how it goes. I'm still about 12 minutes from the end of the video.

Check it out! Geek & Sundry is so much fun!

My father wanted me to be a math Geek. Not going to happen. But I am pretty good with computers. My mother didn't want me reading comic books or fantasy, but she wanted me to be a librarian -- she got half of her wish. She just didn't know librarians are uber-geeks!

Wil Wheaton is going to be at Polaris in Toronto this summer, and I am so excited! He read the audio of Ready Player One which is a paen to the power of geeks and gaming. If you haven't heard it -- he is awesome, and if you're a gamer, it's a must read.

I purposefully don't game because I'd never get anything else done! I've done bits here and there... and not done anything but eat, sleep and breath the game. But I love the idea of gaming! I've heard of the book but now I"m going to have to get the audio version! I do love Wil's voice!

I think my parents would have loved if I was something sensible... like a teacher or an accountant (both things that I majored in when I was in school and then discovered that I could never do as a career because I detested both). Now, they'd just prefer that I have an 8-5 job that pays my bills. *grins* Ah, the joys of parenting!

Once they saw that the person that I am didn't change when I started getting into sci fi and fantasy, I think my parents came to realize that it wasn't the horrible thing that they thought it was. I had cousins that didn't give "geek" a good name. Ah, good times!

Oh, I had no idea. I'm sure your parents are lovely... but I'm suddenly very glad my parents are both geeks and the apples did not fall far from the tree. My mom used to race home from elementary school in order to see Star Trek on the telly and my father read every comic book he could get his hands on. As I often mention, they named me after a character from a Heinlein sci-fi book too.

Now our divisions are more along the lines of which areas of geek we geek. *chuckles*

I'm glad you were able to show your parents the other side of geek. :)

That's why I'm not a typical sort of geek. I don't know the right lingo and definitely haven't read all the right books. But as Felicia Day says, "Go out and be the kind of geek you want to be." That's what I'm trying to do - with really good results!

I'm also trying to be a very vocal geek. I want people to know that I'm into all these books and games. I also want them to see that I'm pretty darn normal. Maybe I can help some other kids not have to be frustrated geeks because their parents keep struggling to keep them in "normal" things.

I love your icon! So cute!

It's AWESOME! But this is the parting of the ways, as there are also a lot of people out there who don't like it, as you die like alaways. If you ever have the chance try it out =D
Have you a favorite game?

My family plays a lot of Qwirkle (http://www.amazon.com/MindWare-M32016-Qwirkle-Board-Game/dp/1933054395/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1336578222&sr=8-1) and UNO (http://www.amazon.com/Mattel-42003-Uno-Card-Game/dp/B00004TZY8/ref=sr_1_1?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1336578262&sr=1-1) and a canasta type of game that we call "Hand and Foot". My sisters and I love to play The Game of Life (http://www.amazon.com/Hasbro-4000-Game-of-Life/dp/B00000IWD7/ref=sr_1_1?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1336578406&sr=1-1) but we came up with different rules for it when we were younger so it's really nothing like the regular game because we play the same game for hours and hours instead of starting.

We also play a dice game that is very much like Zombie Dice. It's easy to play so even the kids can play with us. We like games that large amounts of people can play with us and we can be loud and talk a lot. *grins*

What about you?

Quirkle sounds like fun and I love UNO =D

Next to Dungeon Quest, I love Chaos in The Old World (http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/43111/chaos-in-the-old-world). Wizard (http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/1465/wizard) is very cool. Also Dixit (http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/39856/dixit) is one of my favorite games, but you can't play it with everybody.

Do you play in an active group? My group split due to people moving away and work stuff :( It is kinda hard to find a new group *sigh*
