This drabble gave me the idea for an actual Heroes story! Whoo-hoo!
Title: The Guilt I Hold
Fandom: Heroes
Characters: Peter Petrelli
Prompt: 13. Silver
Word Count: 471
Peter fingered the silver charm around his neck, the symbol of everything that was wrong in his world right now. His mother caught his eye and frowned but he looked away, not caring that she was irritated with him. Anytime they were together for longer than ten minutes, she found something to be irritated about. Earlier, it had been his choice in shirts. Now it was his small movements of discomfort.
His dreams last night were still haunting him. Now that Angela was sharing more of the past with them, he was uneasily aware of his future. Or, a future. He doubted very much it was his now. Too much had changed for the time/space continuium to be heading in the same direction that he had one seen.
Peter, come for me. Come and find me. I need you.
The Irish brogue could only be Caitlin’s even though he never saw the person speaking to him in his dream. He hadn’t meant to leave her there. Hadn’t meant to drag her there in the first place.
No one knew about Caitlin. She wasn’t someone he felt comfortable talking about. Not that there was anyone around he could talk to. Peter wasn’t Peter anymore, although he liked this new Peter even though he didn’t trust him. Matt might have powerful mind control but that didn’t mean Sylar wasn’t stronger. It wasn’t his problem, though. Angela could deal with those ramifications when they came back to bite her well-dressed ass.
Claire was busy with her job at the comic store. That thought made him smile which earned him a slight nod from his mother. He wondered if she’d be so happy with him if she knew what he was thinking about. It irritated her that her grandchild was working in the lowest of all retail shops with boys who stared as if they’d never seen a girl up close.
The list narrowed from there. Noah? Too busy piecing together the Company. Matt? Working very hard at being super dad to care about anyone else. Hiro? He wasn’t keen on visiting anymore hospital rooms and neither he nor Ando had been cleared to leave theirs. Suresh? It would take too long to track him down again now that he was off discovering what these latest developments meant for humankind.
It was something he was going to have to figure out on his own. Too many more nights like last night, with the voice ringing in his ears even after he’d woken up in a cold sweat, and he was going to go craszy sooner than later.
I’m coming, Caitlin. I don’t know how but I’m coming for you. It was the only promise he could make her . The only one she wanted to hear. Now to work out how to get to her.
