I was up VERY LATE last night (or, rather, this morning) reading fic on my phone. The mobile LJ app is quite nice for reading but not that great for surfing around too much. Since I made the list of all the stories I want to read, it works out quite nicely.

So I read two interesting fics last night. They're both old (one is 2006 and one, I think, is 2008) and haven't had comments on them since around the time they were posted but they were still so wonderful to read. Time has not dampened them!

The Year of Jubilee by [livejournal.com profile] vain_glorious (PG-13) is a slave!fic with a twist. Ronon isn't allowed to stay in Atlantis and so goes his own way. Comes across John being sold by some slavers so buys him out of the goodness of his heart. The only problem is they have a bond now that neither one of them can shake. This story made the back of my throat hurt a bit. It was lovely, though. I spent a lot of time trying to figure out what was because of the connection and what was reality and I want to reread again to see if I was right.

AND THEN String Theory, A Concerto for Violin in D Minor by [livejournal.com profile] toft_froggy (NC-17). While I'm not a huge McShep fan, I'm sort of surprised I've never come across this before. Of course, I didn't really go looking for fanfic until about 6 months ago and I haven't read through a lot of McShep stuff but this was LOVELY. Truly, truly gorgeous! It's an AU set in the orchestra world and I thought this was so well thought out and written. I would have reread it on the spot if my eyes hadn't been threatening to close. This is the one that is written in 2006 and I was sad to see that no one commented much past the date it was written.

Of course, that leads me to the fact that people get sort of weirded out when you start commenting on their older stuff. I know my eyebrows raise when I get any sort of hit on some of my early stuff. It's like, how did you people find this stuff? I thought it was hidden away in the closet. *grins* So I hope I'm not freaking people out by leaving comments on some of this older stuff. It does make me want to see if they have newer stuff because some of these names on this list are not name I recognize. Seeing as I've only been active in the fandom for 2 years (almost exactly) and some people dropped out as soon as the show stopped airing, it could be that they were very active and then found other interests. But that could mean that they have more stories to read!

I find it interesting that I decided to read these stories together. They both deal with "mental disorders" and I only just realized that. Huh. Interesting combo.

Today is Ronon Day! I'm going into work at 1400 so I have some time to (1)read some fanfic and (2)get some cold meds into my system and helping me feel like a human when I stand up. So I'm going to read through some of the Ronon fics I've been wanting to read. Hooray!

Right off the bat, one of the stories that I think I've recced here but I wanted to get this on the list.

His Woman by WritingCT (Ronon/Sam) - if you like your women strong, this is a great story. Sam and Ronon are both spot-on, character wise, and their journey toward each other is very well done.

If you like John/Ronon, you probably already know the writing of [livejournal.com profile] jendavis. I Am The Weapon is still one of my ALL TIME FAVORITE FICS and I keep it on my kindle so I can read it whenever the urge comes over me to read some really, really good Ronon/John interactions.

Right now she's working on Damaged Goods which is an AU from the Vegas!verse. She's at chapter 16 right now and the couple have only just now come together (just barely) but the build up is PERFECT. There are lots of details that totally make you believe the relationship. I also love Cadman and Keller in this story, the little bit that you see them.

And then another of her John/Ronon beginnings stories: Cuts You Up - set between Sateda and Reunion and has Ronon working through the emotions and coming to the right conclusion.

Newborn History by [livejournal.com profile] trillingstar (Ronon) - a wonderful rendition of Ronon's history and how important his tattoos are.

And then, of course, the beautiful story that I got for the 2011 [livejournal.com profile] satedan_grabass Thing-A-Thon fic fest: Comings, Goings and Returnings by [livejournal.com profile] tielan (another great Ronon writer!) (Ronon/John) - AU with a large collection of Satedans are still alive. Ronon has to chose between his history and his future.

A new one for me because I still have a lot of [livejournal.com profile] satedan_grabass stories to read. Tour de Pegasus by [livejournal.com profile] kristen999 - John took Ronon to Earth so Ronon takes John on a tour of Pegasus. They find some great adventures.

Last on this list, I thought I would include my own story for the Ronon Thing-A-Thon Back From the Edge (John/Rodney) - prompts used: John & Ronon on Earth with Dave; protective John; and a sort of "glad we didn't die" post-Search & Rescue shag if you sort of look at it through narrowed eyes.

Turns out I don't need to go to work, after all. I can sit here, reading Ronon stories and feeling miserable otherwise. Hooray!

Flyboys (John/Cam) Edition

On a Good Day by [livejournal.com profile] skieswideopen - hot and bothered Cam with a John who knows exactly what he's doing

See the Pretty Shooting Star by [livejournal.com profile] busaikko - a combination of the SGA and the SG-1 OT4s in a apocalyptic world where Atlantis didn't make it to Earth and the Wraith took over the Earth

Artwork: Kerri by [livejournal.com profile] kazbaby for the Kerri fics by [livejournal.com profile] rinkafic = such beautiful images

One of my resolutions this year (and I do need to make a post about that) is to read more fanfic this year AND THEN to post on what I read. There is a month long challenge at [livejournal.com profile] sga_saturday to comment on SGA stories but this is something I need to be doing no matter what. The thing I like most about the community is that the few times I've posted there, I get TONS of people commenting on my stuff. The first time I posted, I nearly fell over at that I got so many people posting! It made me giddy. I'm usually picky about where I post because I like to know how many people are reading because I don't get many comments so I like to see how many people are reading. It's just a good indication of what is working. Not what I'm going to write, granted. Just what people will read.

But comments! Comments are love!

I need to spread the love! If I want love, I should give love!

So three Stargate recs a day for this month. And I'm going to read other things too but I don't get "credit" for those comments. Those are just regular love. *grins* And I need to start leaving comments on Amazon about the ebooks I'm reading, especially those free books that are from independent publishing houses!

Have you written/read something I need to read? Let me know!
