At the moment, I have the computers on (Dresden Files DVD #3 on the MAC and four or five tabs up and running on Pixie)and it looks like I might be able to spend the day on the internet. If my mom asks, I'm folding my clothes. Good thing she never comes upstairs to know that while the clothes do need to be folded from last night's run at the washing machine, I haven't even started folding anything. Not that she's harping on me to fold them. No, our roles are no longer like that. Of course, if I don't have a reasonable explanation of what I plan to do with the day (and "on the computer" doesn't count as a reasonable explanation), I will be cleaning something downstairs... far away from the computer.

Since I deal with Twitter on my phone during the week, I lock posts that have interesting lead ups to web pages that I can't see on my phone. I will share them with you now. They're well worth a click!

...The ever wonderful and witty Neil Gaiman pointed us in the direction of a blog that gives insight to what it takes to be a writer's personal assistant. It is HILARIOUS... and I'm pretty sure that I don't want to BE a personal assistant any time soon but one always needs to know what other people do in their job. Mine may be quite horrible but at least I don't have to answer the phone every minute of the day. *grins*

And I should point out that Neil is on Twitter quite a lot and he's quite funny in 140 chars. If you don't really think you want to follow famous people, he might change your mind. He's @neilhimself and a rollicking good time for all!

...Have you ever wondered where exactly your chosen screen name has been used before? Or, like me, where you've used your screen name and promptly forgotten you ever went to that site? I give you... Name Check! Not only does it tell you were it's been used but gives you a good idea of other places you need to be checking out online. It also might be utilized for stalking purposes but you didn't hear that from me. Go forth and use it well!

...And speaking of protecting yourself online (now that you know where you are), [livejournal.com profile] madamminnie posted a really interesting link to an article about using Google profile to protect your identity so that people know it's you and not someone else entirely. I haven't gone through the steps yet to utilize Google Profile but I found the article interesting.

...On a side note, because I just thought of it again and need to document it - If/When I get another dog, I would like one a similar color to Spencer and I would like to name her Saffron. I was watching Spencer play the other day and it hit me that a good name for her would have been Saffron. Not that I don't love her name and the story (oh my god the story) that goes behind it but she would have made a good Saffron. I like the name. Haven't given a lot of thought to a new playmate for my current precious because of the commute back and forth to work would keep me away from a new loved one most days of the week but I would like to eventually when I get things ironed out again. Right now Spencer is looking at me through mostly closed eyes, trying to figure out why I am staring at her while she's, ahem, sleeping thank you very much. It's quite fun to stare at her while she's sleeping because she's so lovely and peaceful but then she finds the staring to be too much and she JUMPS up and licks my face and begs to play and I do because I love her and think she is amazing.

...Facebook is an amazing entity. Have I said that before? I love it for one main reason... it keeps me connected. Not only to friends and relatives (namely, my little sis while she is all the way across the country and my cousins who I see every five years but adore just the same) but to the insanity of the world at large. By searching and joining and playing and just being a general user, I have found some great things to read and do and be. One of them is near and dear to my heart and I believe that it will be something the majority of my friends here will like as well...

READING. MORE. BOOKS.

It starts here, at a blog from MoonRat (love that name, btw) about a plan she has to find 100 books that she hasn't read to fill in the gaps of classic and contemporary literature that weren't forced down our throats at such an early age that we hadn't begun to appreciate them yet.

It's spread to here, a blog set up for other people who would like to do the same thing.

That being said, I don't know if there is anything here at LJ that is doing the same thing but if anyone know of such a community, please direct me to it as I would very much like to duplicate my efforts in as many different places as possible to get as many good ideas for books to read as possible!

...A talk about books wouldn't be complete without a nod at my list of "have reads" and "must reads" at GoodReads.com. I haven't put them here on my LJ like I said I would but they are in my reading notebook AND here at GoodReads. Once again, I like it because it gives me an idea of what other people are reading. Every once in awhile I go lurking to see what books are being talked about at the communities or I sit down for a stint at the Trivia section (where a couple of my questions have stumped and puzzled many, many people... which makes me sad because I didn't think they were hard but that just goes to show you that most people can't comprehend what goes in my head) or I just skulk.

...Last but now least - HEROES!!! Have you been to NBC's website to see the ALL ACCESS AREA they've been talking about? I WANT that backpack... and the shirt... and the hat. I want it all! I don't know if I want to pay $50 for it all but I want it. I would really like to see what the other special stuff is going to be like because it's not like I can jet down to LA for things like the Heroes for Autism event (which I heard via Twitter was AWESOME) but if it's online stuff, I think I would like that. Anyway, I would really like to know spoilers but going to the ODI is taking care of that so it's not like I need to pay for spoilers!

~~~~~
I believe that concludes my browsing through my Twitter feeds. Thanks for joining me!
Pixie is back from the computer doctors! Hooray! She went in because the speakers didn't appear to be working correctly. Simple, they said. I believed them. Be sure to make a copy of everything on your computer, they said. I didn't believe them. Should have believed them on EVERYTHING. I don't know the why of this but they set the computer back to original specs when they fixed her. This means I had to redownload everything and lost a few things from iTunes that I forgot I had (until I didn't have them and then I was like "Grrr... why did I forget to move that?") and now I'm trying to find a new wallpaper... AGAIN. The first one took me three days of constant searching through LJ to find just the perfect wallpaper. It was great! Of course, I can't find it anymore so I'm looking to find something else that says THIS IS ME, WORLD! but doesn't distract me.
Tomorrow is the first day of April. This means I have less than 24 hours to decide what to write for Script Frenzy. Have a pretty good idea but I'm unsure how to start the project. While I think this project will work really well as a Graphic Novel, I've enjoyed writing bits and pieces of it and it works as a story, too. And the more I delve into this project (and I've actually devoted HOURS to the backstory of this idea), the more I like it... which makes it hard to do it for Script Frenzy. That's crazy, you say. Just do it, already. The thing is, the more I get into it and realize how well it would work as a Graphic Novel, the more I want to see it as a Graphic Novel. I don't want this one to molder in my Google Docs. I want to see it in living color! Which means I want to do it right. The problem is that I'm finding all these sites that talk about how to write a Comic Book... but not a lot that talk about writing a Graphic Novel. Granted, there aren't many Graphic Novels out there that aren't technically Comic Books on steroids but I do have a couple of really good examples of what I want to do. Or I've seen them at B&N and flipped through them. *grins*
The key this coming month will be getting off Facebook! Gah... that site has literally stolen hours of my time this last month. Okay, it didn't steal them. I handed them over freely and felt good about it at the time. But I've got to save those hours for ME this month. I need them all.
Bought a new backpack with my Coke Points. Still have hoards of them. *pets them* There aren't many things I still want on the site but I can't stop inputting points. Even give some to trustworthy causes and I still have tons. The backpack is nifty because there's a place for Pixie and a place for the phone and still plenty of room for notebooks. Notebooks rule my life. I love them. That's where most of my writing takes place these days. One of the major reasons that I got Pixie was so that I could write on the go but I do love writing my hand. Then the version (if it ever gets that far) on the web is the second version which makes it a little tighter which is always a good thing.
No, that's not true. I don't have my mouse so I'm having to rely on the mouse on Pixie... it's very small! She's very small so that does make sense. I have pictures of her somewhere but I keep forgetting to put them here. I need to find them and post them.
but who cares! I have freaking fast WiFi! In my house! I'm writing this (and I will be posting) from the comfortable couch surrounded by my parents (and Spencer who isn't happy because she's not allowed on the couch at all) where it is quasi-warm. Hooray! And I can get the internet in my bed and the kitchen and out on the porch when it's warm! Hooray!
This means I can watch Movies and TV from the computer, too! So happy.
And it couldn't have happened any sooner. I went to sign into PeoplePC on Saturday and they'd gotten rid of ALL the local numbers I could use. No explanation or anything! So irritating! But they were better than AOL so that's not too bad.
Okay, so I'm hoping this means I'll be posting a lot more. I guess it might... but I'm not going to promise anything.
Pixie connected to the internet here at work! Hooray! I didn't think the connection was strong enough to get to the internet but I guess it was. Or maybe it's because I'm in a different part of the break room because I needed to plug in my phone. Guess this will be my new place to sit!
January 1st is here again! Hooray! We made it through another year!
This is the first post done on Pixie, my new BLUE Acer Aspire. I love it... but it doesn't have a phone connection so I can only get online with WiFi. In the very corner of our house I can pick up a weak open signal but nothing that will get me online. At church, I can pick up TWO weak signals while I'm in a corner but again, nothing strong enough to get online. So I'm at the local gas station where they have free WiFi. It's a great signal, too! As soon as I'm done here, I plan on downloading various things... all at once! *g*
This is the coolest computer ever. It's very small and very lighweight but it's still easy to use. I'm still getting used the keyboard (89% of a normal keyboard) and it doesn't help that this table is too high up to type comfortably. I'm close to a plug-in and that is important as I only have about 45 more minutes. The most irritating thing right now is that I keep hitting the fast key that wants to tell me all about how to use Internet Explorer. And I have a tendency to push Control instead of the full stop but I'm getting better at that. It's just going to take time to get used to!
Oooh... right by the door. Maybe I'll go looking for a different plug-in!
Doodle and The Boy are flying home tonight. We left them in Boise yesterday and one of her high school friends is taking them to the airport. Yesterday was a heap of fun... NOT! Noodle and I got to try on bridesmaid dresses. None of these dresses are designed to make anyone look pretty unless they are a size 2 and look pretty in everything else. I could fit in most of the dresses but they were all designed for B cups and I am decidedly not a B cup. I flashed just about everyone in the store! I was deteremined to keep a smile on my face so I left my pride on the floor with my discarded street clothes and soldiered on. I've given Doodle enough grief about her constant worry about EVERY detail and I didn't want her to regret asking me. Luckily, Noodle didn't really look good in the dresses either... once again, she has cleavage that the dress makers don't seem to worry about in these dresses. It looks like we might go with a more Brazilian slant for the dresses which will make them much more flowing than a tradional dress. This also means that they will probably be made at home. Not that my poor mother will have a lot of time on her hands what with making the flower girl dresses, too. My list of things to do includes making the envelopes for the DVDs that are being sent out with the invitations/save the date cards and making the envelopes for the Thank You cards. Yep, my gift is envelope making. I figure I'll also go through Mom's list and help her out. I just don't think Doodle trusts me to carry out anything major. That's okay. She can give it to Mom and I'll do it. It's not like I don't have party planning experience or anything....
While in Boise, I got to the B&N which is always fun! It was crowded and I don't like that store as much as I like my own, familiar Twin Falls location but I got new books! Hooray! I also discovered a used bookstore near a Joanne's fabric store that is closing down (they're finally getting one of the new big stores in Boise) and I spent some time perusing the shelves for books. It was one of those places that smelled like smoke and moldering paper. I love it! They've been there for 16 years, according to the owner and shop-minder. I can't believe I've never heard of it! Even when I was over that way for college! I will have to return!
My completed 2008 book list will be forthcoming. I'm still going through some of the math of everything. I'm halfway through with a book right now and trying to figure out what list it should go on: 2008 or 2009? I meant to have it finished yesterday but forgot my book list so couldn't listen to it on the ride home. It'll be done today, though!
Okay, I've got things to do other than writing about my boring life! Onto the fun!
