Found some good music lately! Don't have any of it to post here because that would require getting it onto a disk and back onto the first computer again and I don't get to that computer much. *sigh* So much hard work! But I'll try to get some of it soon.

Anyway, first band is Paramore. You've heard them if you've heard the Twilight soundtrack and I think I posted a video here awhile ago. Love them. Love their music. Love their lyrics. Love their message.

Another one that is similar (although I hate comparing them at all) is Fireflight which I discovered on Pandora on the Paramore station I created. Songs like "Forever" and "Unbreakable" will keep me coming back to them over and over again. (ETA: You can check out some of their songs on their MySpace page)

These albums, along with some Demi Lovato, Plumb (mostly the older stuff), Taylor Swift, Aly & AJ and good ol' Avril Lavigne round out the soundtrack for this year's Script Frenzy. I label this project a cross between X-Men and Gossip Girls but I would hate to put a label on this project before it even gets off the ground. Wish the writing was going faster, that's all I can say!

I don't have my books for this year posted yet but I do have them up on Goodreads.com if you're interested. I love the site because I can review them if I feel like it but I always have to give them a "star chart" which makes me think about them a bit more than I would if I just had to put down the title and page amount. There's a lot of fun to be had at this site, if that's what you'd like. Groups (both reading and obsessing), Trivia (I have several questions that I put in!), and a place to get some good ideas of what to read next. I pair this with Paperbackswap.com and feel like I'm getting a better quality of reading material. Of course, I have to get through the backlog of questionable stuff.

Other than trying very hard to stay away from Facebook this week, things are going along swimmingly. I've had my fix of small hugs today when we went into Hailey for the AWANA Grand Prix (they race wooden cars much like the Boy Scouts do) and got to spend time with Gretchen, Becca, the Danis and Zane. While work can be boring and certain people irritating, I'm fortunate to have the job and am very appreciative of it.

Now if Spring could be more like Summer...

The Ashgrave Chronicles - From Day one of Script Frenzy )

~~~~~ more to come!!! ~~~~~
To those of you who know the "comic book" world a bit better (or understand the process of creating the script for one), I would love your input. This is only my second year doing this and I still haven't been able to track down an actual script for a working book (so that I can see BOTH sides of the process) or a decent book/website that might tell me more about how to write this. I get a lot of "Whatever works for you" from the Script Frenzy site. They did mention a book that I'm going to look into getting.
Any other suggestions (both on the formatting of the script and the overall vibe so far) are greatly appreciated.
Time for my annual FIRST DAY OF SCRIPT FRENZY AND I DON'T KNOW THAT I MADE THE RIGHT CHOICE post.
I'm doing Script Frenzy again this year. Sophomore effort. Still scary to have a deadline looming but I NEED to do it. Not writing like I was and that makes me sad and irritated and morose and itchy. Yes, I get itchy when I think of all the time I'm wasting NOT writing. If the end result of my life is to be remembered for the words I put on paper... I've got a lot of work ahead of me to get caught up.
As always, I question if I made the right choice in what to write about. Love the idea I've had for a couple of months and thought I'd give it a try in Graphic Novel form to see how it works. Also plan on writing it for NaNo if it's still in my head by the time November rolls around.
The first page and a half seem good.
Only 98 and a half more pages to go!
Pixie is back from the computer doctors! Hooray! She went in because the speakers didn't appear to be working correctly. Simple, they said. I believed them. Be sure to make a copy of everything on your computer, they said. I didn't believe them. Should have believed them on EVERYTHING. I don't know the why of this but they set the computer back to original specs when they fixed her. This means I had to redownload everything and lost a few things from iTunes that I forgot I had (until I didn't have them and then I was like "Grrr... why did I forget to move that?") and now I'm trying to find a new wallpaper... AGAIN. The first one took me three days of constant searching through LJ to find just the perfect wallpaper. It was great! Of course, I can't find it anymore so I'm looking to find something else that says THIS IS ME, WORLD! but doesn't distract me.
Tomorrow is the first day of April. This means I have less than 24 hours to decide what to write for Script Frenzy. Have a pretty good idea but I'm unsure how to start the project. While I think this project will work really well as a Graphic Novel, I've enjoyed writing bits and pieces of it and it works as a story, too. And the more I delve into this project (and I've actually devoted HOURS to the backstory of this idea), the more I like it... which makes it hard to do it for Script Frenzy. That's crazy, you say. Just do it, already. The thing is, the more I get into it and realize how well it would work as a Graphic Novel, the more I want to see it as a Graphic Novel. I don't want this one to molder in my Google Docs. I want to see it in living color! Which means I want to do it right. The problem is that I'm finding all these sites that talk about how to write a Comic Book... but not a lot that talk about writing a Graphic Novel. Granted, there aren't many Graphic Novels out there that aren't technically Comic Books on steroids but I do have a couple of really good examples of what I want to do. Or I've seen them at B&N and flipped through them. *grins*
The key this coming month will be getting off Facebook! Gah... that site has literally stolen hours of my time this last month. Okay, it didn't steal them. I handed them over freely and felt good about it at the time. But I've got to save those hours for ME this month. I need them all.
Bought a new backpack with my Coke Points. Still have hoards of them. *pets them* There aren't many things I still want on the site but I can't stop inputting points. Even give some to trustworthy causes and I still have tons. The backpack is nifty because there's a place for Pixie and a place for the phone and still plenty of room for notebooks. Notebooks rule my life. I love them. That's where most of my writing takes place these days. One of the major reasons that I got Pixie was so that I could write on the go but I do love writing my hand. Then the version (if it ever gets that far) on the web is the second version which makes it a little tighter which is always a good thing.
it's done.
validated and everything!
101 pages with only 12 pages that aren't in the actual "story". 4 pages are from the next story that i have in my mind... which is actually a version of the first story in this series, otherwise known as nano 2005. 8 pages of stuff that i didn't use for various reasons, mostly because of rabbit trails that i decided to backtrack.
i'm ready for a rest. i'm going to read all of may!!!!
I'm really hoping to do all 100 pages I need to get done to complete the Script Frenzy challenge but I'm thinking it may not happen. Some things I've learned between this experience (which has been super fun, don't get me wrong) and the failure that was NaNo 2007.
1. Don't try a writing challenge without a laptop or a computer that is hooked to the internet. A notebook and pen, while great for creativity, will only get half the job done. The other half... the typing half... is much, much harder to do when it is a second step.
2. While it is possible to do these challenges with a real life, it's not always easy. My parents are ever so cool about me locking myself in my room and my new co-workers have learned to quit asking me silly questions when they see me with my notebook under my arm or spread out in front of me on the breakroom table, but it's harder to do what I need to do when there are so many other options available to me. I'm really no good at making myself do the work.
3. Creativity will strike at any time. Literally, any time. Thank the good Lord for small scraps of paper that seem to follow me around at work. Otherwise, I'd be doing a lot of writing on my arms.
4. It can be done. I'm sure it can. And it's harder to fail after succeeding so often. So I will do it. Or get as close as I can and be happy with the outcome.
5. I still really like the process of putting together a Graphic Novel. It's been fun to imagine what the finished product might look like!
I like writing Graphic Novels so much, I may not go back to regular novel writing!!!! It's so much easier than I thought it would be to translate the pictures in my head into squares and rectangles that combine to tell a story. And I think I'm getting pretty good at it. I've been able to mix and match the sizes of boxes pretty well and even tried a couple of "advanced" panels that I've seen in the comic books I've been perusing.
And speaking of comic books/graphic novels... anyone get the new Serenity book yet? It should be out this month and I have our order guy looking out for it for me. Hooray!
Awesome book if you can get your hands on it... The Magician's Tale by David Hunt. The back cover is from The New York Times Book Review... "A strange seductive story...as eerie as a midnight walk in the fog. David Hunt starts the fog machine by introducing us to the bleak world that a San Francisco photographer named Kay Farrow sees when she looks out from eyes that are completely color-blind. [Her} nocturnal prowls through the Tenderloin district take on a terrible purpose after the bizarre murder of a handsome street hustler who was her favorite model and only friend. The voice of the storyteller grows more intimate, more mesmerizing, once the narrative begins to explore the shadowy secrets in the victim's past. But it is Kay's extraordinary vision that arrests us; with the starkness of a reverse negative, it shows us light and dark, truth and deception, reality and illusion, even good and evil, in ways we never imagined." Anyway, go check it out. I'm about halfway done and I'm loving it!!!!
Finally did my taxes... yes, I'm behind this year. Doing two states SUCKS. Especially Idaho. I couldn't e-file! Aw, yes. When will they be up with the 21st century, I wonder. But I'm thinking I'm going to take my return and get a laptop. I'd really like a tablet but... I don't have that kind of money laying around and the government isn't going to give me that much either. Anyway, I'm getting tired of this downtime that I could be on a computer but I can't get close to one. And it seems that I'll probably start doing more house sitting (I have a gig this weekend that should pay for a couple of tanks of gas, at least) and then the staying with my Gramma in the technology-free zone. I want to get a Mac so that it will be compatible with Millan. Guess that 30 gig iPod will have to wait for awhile longer!
Will give an update soon of PBR last weekend... and hopefully post a pic of my new cowboy boots! Yes, I've gone country. They're black and not at all pointy and ever so comfortable. I can even wear them to work! I've got to get my $90 out of them!
Some good info on GN formatting that should come in handy later one, especially
Dark Horse sample script... more about how to use panels effectively
Step by step formatting tips as well as other interesting side notes to explore since I've never been to this particular site before
Advice to new writers from David Brin.
A good definition of Graphic Novel
I plan on adding more here later as I find interesting sites.
I'm no graphic novel expert, only having read the Buffy series and the Heroes Season One book (OMG how did I ever live without it! I know where the secrets START!) but I'm thinking of doing Script Frenzy this year.
30 days. 100 pages. I've read through the forums to find help on formatting a graphic novel and it sounds about like I thought it would. It's not like I have to draw the thing myself. Just write it! It's kinda like thinking you need to act in the play you write.
I've got a couple of ideas percolating in my head that I think would work well as a GN. I even tried mapping a couple of pages out of one just to see what would happen.
And the best part about this? It's put on the nice people who put on NaNoWriMo every year so if you've done that before, you're already signed up! Well, almost. You have to sign on to the site. Easy Peasy!
